I wonder if the MHRA approves AVA6000 for clinical trials with the same haste as the Pfizer jab...I suspect not!

Don't get me wrong I am keen to see a vaccine as much as the next person but this timeline if extreme to say the least. The jab hasn't even been approved in the US despite all of Pfizer's lobbying. Seeing Matt Han**** grinning from "ear to ear" this morning about being the first country to approve the jab just didn't sit right with me this morning.

How would targeting a different protein affect specificity?

I was surprised to hear that the level of specificity Innova achieved using antibodies. A Smith hinted in a coupe of presentations that there was some evidence that companies using antibodies were struggling with specificity. We also know that the Sona LFT was only achieving 90% spec which was also designed with Cytiva and that uses antibodies.

Sorry I have no scientific knowledge whatsoever I was just hoping that that the specificity of the Affimers was going to be our major selling point, the Innova figures make me doubt that somewhat. Would really appreciate your thoughts.

Also no longer selling the 24 kit which indicates to me that the product is selling really well.

Totally back Big Al 100% for taking the time and ensuring the product is robust and scalable. The real prize is getting the gold standard test out there regardless how long it takes and proving up the affimer technology. Build the gold standard and governments and large diagnostics companies will come ready with their chequebook. Going to be a very exciting 2021 for Avacta:)

I would say that considering Avacta have done pre-clinical deals approaching 1 billion dollars that they are doing a great job of advancing their pipelines. LG Chem have expanded the partnership twice in the last 12 months alone.

There is no doubt that Mologic are a quality UK diagnostics company as Avacta are.

The demand will far out strip supply so there is room for both companies for sure, my only concern is that the manufactures in the UK which is limited, will ultimately go with the company that develops the best test. I'm backing the Affimers and their higher specificity to the target though

Also lets no forget the non-covid diagnostics pipeline. This is often forgotten but Avacta reported earlier in the year on a number of in house assays that were ready to be licenced. A smith mentioned just last week that their had been significant progress on non covid licencing opportunities within the diagnostics division.. I found it very interesting that Big Al in the recent share buyers interview mentioned that with appropriate scale up capital Avacta could compete with the likes of Roche, Thermofisher and Abbot, all major diagnostics companies. Whilst the Covid opportunity could generate massive near term revenues, the spotlight it has shown on the affimer technology and its ability to outperform antibodies will imo ultimately be the biggest driver of shareholder value over the next couple of years.

I also find it interesting that Matt Johnson is now listed as chief scientific officer for the diagnostics division on LinkedIn, which has changed this week.

Senior Assay Scientist Role: Acting as the customer-facing technical lead for both internal and external projects

I'm surprised a further update hasn't been given on this as Avacta said on the 18th June:

Work is continuing with Professor Bhella to further study the way in which the Affimer reagents prevent infection and Avacta is using this growing body of data actively to secure a large pharmaceutical partner to develop these potential therapeutic candidates rapidly.

If they hadn't secured a partner wouldn't they have released further data? I know they have done the deal with Affyxell, but that's part of a stem cell therapy not a standalone blocker.

Now this is a real reach now but noticed that our former Medical officer recently moved over to to AZ. Could it be they needed a man on the inside with experience of Affimers. Avacta sort of have a relationship with AZ through ADC.......probably nothing but good to dream:)

Didn't understand much of what was said but took away that Mass Spectrometry is a cheap, sensitive, fast throughput option for detecting CoVID-19. Some interesting slides about comparison to PCR at the end as well.
