With COVID-19 restrictions and outbreaks leaving businesses facing closure or productivity downturns, Medusa 19, a Greater Manchester-based testing and diagnostics company, has invested £20m to ramp up production of a ten-minute Rapid Saliva Protein Test (RSPT) that indicates immune response to COVID-19.

Established by Richard Hughes, founder of Zeus Capital, and Mahmud Kamani, both founder shareholders of Boohoo.com, the significant investment has enabled production of 2.5m tests, retailing at £29.99 per test, ready to be distributed to UK and international companies.

With many businesses looking to implement affordable organisation-wide testing to monitor viral outbreaks and ensure the workplace is safe for employees to remain in, Medusa 19 is planning to ramp up production to 50m tests each month at its manufacturing site in the Wirral.

Cant believe they are going to shift 50m a month of their test at £30 a pop. Just a gut feeling that Medusa may have a part to play with manufacturing the Avacta test.

Been doing a bit of snooping over the Avacta employees recently and noticed they have juggled their marketing team a little to be more focussed on the diagnostics division. I found Avacta's marketing managers job description interesting.

I’m as frustrated as everyone else but still have every confidence in Avacta delivering. Though I will say if they don’t deliver some covid-19 related revenues then Big Al is finished. You can’t make the statements he has made and not deliver something.

That was my initial thought Dave as we know antibodies struggle with specificity.

I do think that Avacta need to update us though as to whether they are still working with Cytiva in any capacity.

Aptamer have launched a new website and it seems they have rebranded their "aptamers" as "Optimers" I'm not sure if its just a rebrand or they have improved on their performance as something else grabbed my attention.

Already have one, he secured almost deals with LG Chem, Daewonng, Moderna and ADC worth almost a billion dollars and all without any human data...…well done sir!

I hear this argument all the time about lack of vacancies and recruitment at Avacta. Don't folks realise that you don't need hundreds of staff if your aim is to licence your products to 3rd parties. Arm holdings never had the staffing levels of similar turnover businesses...….but boy was it profitable.

That being said Avacta has been recruiting and making interesting moves in its diagnostics division.

To be fair it was the only concern I found in my research, that Avacta hadn't done a good job of commercialising or licencing products in its diagnostics division. A Smith was frustrated in the time it was taking for technology evaluations, hence the move to designing assays in house ready for licencing. I feel this move will ultimately pay off big time , especially now the affimer tech has been exposed to a global audience.

The diagnostics division has always been starved of cash and Avacta is now finally properly resourced to exploit the potential within this space. The fund raise was absolutely critical to moving this company to the next level imo.

I see Jon Deeks works at the University of Birmingham.

Any chance this is one of the uni's where Bams is being validated?

This test is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE for the Government's plans

It is totally unsafe to use these tests to decide somebody does not have COVID nor “infectious”.

If it were a drug surely this would warrant an immediate withdrawal from use.

Come on Al drop the bomb and put Deeksy concerns to rest:)
