Ours is possibly the first generation to grow old with our musical heroes, who are still in demand. Given the excesses enjoyed in the 60s and 70s, some voices have fared better than others.
My father was a massive Sinatra fan. In the early 80s, I offered to take him to the RAH, I think it was, to see him, possibly for the last time. He said no, which, at the time, I could not understand. I do now.
I am a huge Kate Bush fan, but chose not to attend the 2014 gigs for the same reason. Having bought the CDs, I’m glad I didn’t. Having listened to the ninth wave, wincing at several points, I hurriedly dug our my original studio version and played it through, just to make sure it is still as astounding as I thought. It is.
