Just 8 more months to find excuses before the election, which I’d their time horizon.
Thor has to make a decision and stop these preposterous delays, none of which have substance.

The crushing irony of this situation is that, had Sweden followed it’s own application process, there would already be a mine at Kallak shipping high grade ore at premium prices.
The net result of this would be a monthly tax and job bonanza, both of which would benefit the Sami people and their activities and heritage, as well as the country at large.

There was only the fear between Baylan and Damberg’s ears which prevented them from fulfilling the responsibilities of high office.

I will believe that if and when Thor proves his pro mining credentials with a decision. The longer he fails to do so, the more I will believe he is from the same mould as his predecessors.

Without a decision, it's always a pump and dump. Whether over a couple of days or a couple of weeks.
Thor must stamp his authority immediately.
To let this stagnate yet again tars him with the same brush as Damberg and Baylan.

If Budge is feeling mischievous, he should challenge the utter twaddle the Sami have been spouting for years about how much space the reindeer migration requires.
If this is the Sami’s last gasp, then Thor should prove his credentials by swatting the Sami statement safely and legally aside, and reach a decision on the license without delay.

I’ll give Thor until next Friday 17th to demonstrate clear follow up to his initial pro mining comments this week.
It appears that today he has fallen at the first fence by not turning up. He could issue a statement but he hasn’t.
I don’t want to file him under Damberg / Baylan just yet, but he is a Swedish politician at the end of the day.
Between now and the election may be the only chance to see a decision for several years.

Thor has provided no more than an opportunity for a decision to be made with his pro mining comments.
Whatever is or isn’t happening today in Parliament, in my view, inorder to continue the narrative he has begun, he must issue a statement detailing where he is with the decision, and when it will be concluded.
No more conjecture and misplaced hope. Enough is enough.
It is in his hands.

But seriously, the removal of the greens at the same time as Thor’s apparently refreshing pro-mining views being aired so soon after his appointment represents ( and I’ll choose my words very carefully ) no more than an opportunity for the decision on Kallak to finally be made.
Instinctively, I do not trust any politicians solely on the strength of what they say, without commensurate action.
I live in West Yorkshire, which will no longer see HS2 finding it’s way to Leeds, despite Bojo “pledging “ as much in full public view on several occasions.
Action now, not merely words, and timetabled too.
No more “forthcoming” and “prioritised” nonsense.

The Sami have had the luxury of posing as eco warriors these past years, knowing that the greens in parliament would allow them that luxury.
With a meaningful and clear statement from Thor tomorrow, the Sami must change tack to acknowledging that progress is inevitable and participate in co-operating in a way for a mine and herding to live alongside one another.
Without greens in the coalition, the Sami have insufficient clout to hold back the tide.
It is entirely down to what Thor says tomorrow in parliament. His words will either be the first step towards establishing a mine at Kallak or ploughing the same ignominious furrow as his predecessors.

How many ways are there to say “ we oppose a mine at Kallak “
The Sami can have nothing to add to their previously submitted statements which say anything new or different.
They have resolutely refused overtures from BEM to discuss co-existing with a mine over almost a decade. They will now be sprinting to any meeting with BEM if money is being offered to subsidise their ailing reindeer businesses.
If Thir is serious in backing up his encouraging words, on Friday he must set the scene in full view of the Sami that a decision will be made, and soon, and that more than enough information exists from previous submissions on which to base a watertight, legally safe decision, beyond which all that needs to be discussed is how the co-existence is to be managed.
There must be no more hiding from the ministerial responsibilities flouted by Damberg and Baylan.

Unless there is a leak by Friday that the Sami have conceded defeat in this matter ( improbable in the extreme ), then it is just another talking shop. No harm in listening to more pro- mining chat from Thor, but I would prefer to wait for something more tangible before getting excited myself.
The Sami’s comments may not even arrive by the 16th deadline. They have plenty of previous, do they not?
