Listen to our latest Investing Matters Podcast episode 'Uncovering opportunities with investment trusts' with The AIC's Richard Stone here.
The absence of evidence that something is happening, either from Thor or Budge is disturbing.
Momentum is everything right now.
Budge now, more than ever needs to press hard for a decision in this brief window of opportunity, before the hustings take over at Easter.
That is a fair question PaulAim.
As a teenager, she was an ideologue with a bit of edge - quite endearing.
She has failed to mature, and allowed herself to be manipulated. It’s almost like she’s playing the part expected of her now. But she will soon run out of steam. Like Sturgeon, she only knows one song, and people are not listening.
Perversely, in my opinion, her trademark anger has fired up ignorance and division which our politicians love, as it makes her easy to caricature and ignore.
I could probably be labelled a fatalist, and I seriously don’t believe the juggernaut that is the human race can be brought to heel by anything other than our own self inflicted demise.
Hmmm, interesting thoughts.
Greta and her ilk bang on about saving “our” planet which is ironically and ignorantly arrogant.
The planet belongs to no-one but itself, or Mother Nature, if you must personalise it.
The earth is a miracle of coincidence:
The speed and attitude of orbit at the perfect distance from a life giving sun. The existence of, and perfect orbital rhythm of the moon pulling the tides in and out.
A benign atmosphere and deep, rich soil capable of feeding us all so successfully the we are able to waste a third of all food produced.
Humans are afflicted with the ability to reason pretty much everything except how to break the stranglehold of GDP % growth on our leaders policies.
The last thing humans will utilise to save the planet as a safe home is reason, sadly.
Mother Nature, on the other hand will party harder than Prince in 1999 when our brief reign is over.
So, ladies and gentleman, dip your bread in and enjoy your lives, because whatever you, we do, the human race will end in the blink of an eye in cosmic terms.
Everything else is just noise, Greta and her woke army being the latest sonic fad.
I would urge you to read “ The Second Sleep “ by Robert Harris, who can express reality with a surgical eloquence of a thorough and professional journalist.
Happy new year. Party hard while you can.....
On the contrary, it is very easy for Thor.
The laws on mining application are clear and stand behind the granting of the exploitation license.
Just do it, Thor.
The longer you prevaricate, the more the green fraternity and the Sami will push.
It has to be now.
Greta is a muddle headed gobsh*te who is a gift to the slack journalism of the main stream media.
And a hero to all the woke, virtue signalling under 30s, most of who couldn't find their own backsides with both hands.
The most disturbing aspect of her persona is that the magnificent Sor David Attenborough appears to give her credence!
Suzy2,
Hustings kick off in March, so if there is no decision by then, there will be no decision this side of the election.
And, as I’ve said before, should the election results open the door to the greens, these few months, which represent the best and most realistic opportunity for a decision, will have been wasted!
There is no need for Thor to accommodate Sami requests for more time.
He stated quite clearly over a month ago, he has all the information necessary to make a legally sound decision.
So you tell me, Suzy2, why is he not doing what he said he would???
Yes indeed. Budge’s default action is no action. Even from such a passive CEO, the least I was expecting this morning was an RNS with a shot across the bows of the feckless swedes.
In the absence of an open communication, he must surely be demanding answers directly from Thor, on which he can then update investors.
Anything less would be, in my opinion, once again, not good enough.
I think I’ve seen enough of Thor to realise he’s just the next cab off the ministerial rank, spouting positivity and doing nothing.
Again, in my opinion, he will let the clock run down to the elections without making any decision.
Whatever the Sami’s “comments” are is irrelevant. It is the fact that, even without the greens in the loop, ministers are focused on themselves, and their personal careers beyond the elections in September.
No matter what their rhetoric, all else comes a distant second.
The SP is elevated on wishful thinking fuelled by Thor's comments on appointment 6 weeks ago
As each day passes, the decision he flagged up as necessary gets further away.
As I've said since his appointment, swedish bureaucrats have proved over many years that their words have zero value without commensurate action.
My view of Thor is cooling rapidly.
The earliest he will even consider the Sami's comments is now 5 weeks away minimum.
His credibility with investors is already being lost.
Budge should publicly remind him of his initial pronouncements and demand that he follows them up with the action his own application process and the law underpinning it dictates.
Suzy2,
You mean the current government in cahoots with endless Sami / Green delays, counting down the clock to the elections and not producing the decision Thor promised 6 weeks ago?
Budge has to get an RNS out immediately challenging the continuing delays, demanding justification, or a decision without delay.
Suzy2,
You assert that “ this is different “
How?
It is exactly the same as all the previous false dawns. Should the decision not be forthcoming before the election and the greens poll the requisite 4%, thus restoring their parliamentary voice, the Kallak application will once again be off the agenda.
Thor must decide, and quickly, otherwise his swaggering ebullience in his first few days in office will be reduced to hot air and bluster.
And the election draws nearer, which represents safety for the Sami and the Greens.
This stinks to high heaven.
Budge must act now.
If the elections happen before a decision, Kallak will not happen for many years, if ever.
Since Thor’s opening salvo, the Sami have somehow bought a further month?
Just 8 more months to find excuses before the election, which I’d their time horizon.
Thor has to make a decision and stop these preposterous delays, none of which have substance.
He must not be yet another lickspittle jobsworth.
The request for a translation of the UNESCO letter. 6 months on is ridiculous, and should be treated as such.
The Sami are desperate to eek this out until the election in the hope that the greens will achieve the 4% of the vote required to give them a parliamentary voice.
Expect more nonsense from them.
Thor has given them one free hit with the extension to 7th January.
After that he must make a decision, otherwise his ebullience on appointment will be meaningless.
The crushing irony of this situation is that, had Sweden followed it’s own application process, there would already be a mine at Kallak shipping high grade ore at premium prices.
The net result of this would be a monthly tax and job bonanza, both of which would benefit the Sami people and their activities and heritage, as well as the country at large.
I hope the Green Party understand the way they have inflicted damage on their own unfounded ideology?
Suzy2,
There was only the fear between Baylan and Damberg’s ears which prevented them from fulfilling the responsibilities of high office.
You say the problem is now miraculously overcome?
I will believe that if and when Thor proves his pro mining credentials with a decision. The longer he fails to do so, the more I will believe he is from the same mould as his predecessors.
Sorry if I’m not excited enough lol.
That has an ominously familiar ring to it.
How many times has that message been heard from Damberg and Baylan? Which was simply a kicking of the can?
Thor’s ebullient pronouncements 2 weeks ago needs to be followed by swift decisive action and a decision on Kallak without delay.
Streamlining permitting processes for future applications has relevance to an application submitted almost 9 years ago.
Get on with your job, Thor!!
Without a decision, it's always a pump and dump. Whether over a couple of days or a couple of weeks.
Thor must stamp his authority immediately.
To let this stagnate yet again tars him with the same brush as Damberg and Baylan.
