The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
Gambier,
With respect, after 9 years, this can not be labelled a delay.
It is wilful obstruction of a process of their own making.
Add to this, incompetence, incessant leaks ( unchallenged )of price sensitive information, preferential treatment of anti mining factions, the Green Party and the Sami primarily and you have the perfect, atrophied nonsense which has been the signature of this saga all along.
Nine years, and people are still saying “ oh well, never mind “
I am astonished that people are excusing the minister’s abdication of his duty of office, especially after all his media bluster about mining in Sweden.
Life goes on.
If it weren’t for the 24/7 blanket media coverage of the invasion of Ukraine, you would know nothing of it.
Life is normal here and most of the rest of the world.
The Ukrainians have the right idea. Fight to protect what they value, and that means carrying on in the face of overwhelming odds, no matter what the cost.
What overwhelming odds is Thor facing which stops him fulfilling his obligations?
None.
He should have already delivered the ( correct ) decision on Kallak.
It is four months since he stated all necessary information was already to hand to make it.
Selling at 13p this morning.
A month ago, it would have been 17p, yet, not long before that, even 13p would have seemed fanciful.
Thor has let you down badly.
He has proved himself to be just the latest bag of wind off the Swedish production line.
I am of the opinion that, once the hustings take hold of the politicians feeble minds, Kallak will receive no attention, and very quickly today’s sell price will once again be just more wishful thinking.
Politicians talking too much and doing too little.
A universal, perennial plague.
Putin may be mad, but he is not stupid. He has played on the west's elected impotence for over 20 years.
And still Russia is in the chair at the UN, the most impotent talking shop of them all.
The circus rolls on.....
I disagree.
Geo-political instability increases the need for basic commodity self sufficiency, which used to be Sweden's strength.
Politicians are a modern scourge, with all the appeal of inquisition high clergy. Appalling human beings.
When he took up the post, he was spouting pro mining works on a daily basis. You couldn't shut him up.
That was his honeymoon period when all he had to do was talk.
We have moved on. Now the time for talking has ended and it's time to act, he has gone to ground.
If you need to see how politicians behave, look at Putin.
If Thor makes no decision by the end of Feb, in my opinion he’s bottled it.
He said over 3 months ago there was all the info required with which to make a decision. All the ( unnecessary ) additional submissions will be seen as a device to get him through to the hustings for the September election, when all other business is shelved traditionally.
I felt he was different from Damberg and Baylan - more credible in his pro mining rhetoric. But without the action to back it up, he is just another clone.
I hope I’m wrong. Still waiting to buy back in, but no way without the concession.
There is no justifiable reason for the decision not to be made now. The delays afforded to the mine's opponents have added nothing.
The Swedes never do anything promptly though.
The decision has to be made before hustings begin next month.
Will Thor do what his position demands of him? We shall see in the next few days.

Ignorance, and it’s misuse on social media is reversing the rise of civilisation faster than anything witnessed in all of human history.
The addiction to sensation and the need to feel righteous by attaching yourself to some pie in the sky cause is frightening.
The millennial generation is the first to have been educated not to use any critical faculties of their own. Simply to consume the blizzard of BS coming at them 24 hours a day from their digital devices.
Anyway Greta, no need to worry pet, when the world runs out of commodities and economies crash, you and your following can cuddle up to a reindeer.
Context and the ability to see the interconnected big picture is no longer a required skill.
Suzy2,
Absolutely not.
1. LSE should not be posting one sided Sensationalist nonsense as news.
2. Dornod should not have posted such a reactionary comment a propos of nothing. UN task force setting up a no go area??? Nonsensical rubbish.
Bed wetting.
This is nonsense.
Slack journalism. It is claimed that the UN human rights commission is “ urging Sweden to say no to a mine at Kallak “ stating it would damage Sami livelihoods and culture. That is so biased, uninformed and just plain wrong.
So what? Sweden operates under it’s own legislation, and the UN is full of opinions and do-gooder jobsworths who have no power or influence. Thor should simply ignore and apply the law.
FF23,
According to the published application process and supporting legislation, any submission by the company of an EIA is required only subsequent to the granting of the exploitation license.
Rest assured the submission as it stands is above and beyond the requirements and merits the awarding of the concession.
Nothing more to be said now from any stakeholder.
Thor has a watertight application as judged by his own country’s legislation, which would, if necessary withstand the scrutiny of any judicial review.
He must decide in the company’s favour, and quickly.
Nerves appear to have settled, and despite low volumes, the SP is stable towards the top end of recent trading.
The hustings will begin within the next month, so he must clear this from his desk before then!
