I have been reading up on the 'troubles' in the North of Mali, they seem very recent, only been going on since the 1300s.
Some empires were attempted to be formed but ultimately failed, which is why there are these Arab etc tribes up there.
The tribes, or so called militants fight with other tribes in the North and even have factions within their own tribes and these factions fight with each other.
However there are very few people up there, our smaller cities have larger populations than the entire region.
I do not understand why there was a task force to fight ISis sent there, because apparently these groups are less than friendly to ISIS and ISIS can't establish themselves in that region.
ISIS is gaining a foothold in the Congo allegedly.
It just shows what a load of baloney is in our news and when it is something we do not look into properly even the most diligent of us believe at least one of their stories.
Meanwhile a large attack happens in Israel that none of them saw coming - typical.
