pandemonia what you have at the moment is the West trying to 2nd guess Putin with what his next move MIGHT be. He hasn't succeeded fully at Mariupol and his land bridge yet and is simply not making the progress he would like in the East. Russia makes some gains and then it is taken back whilst suffering many casualties. General mobilisation would mean conscripts, expedited training, lack of battle hardened experience and countless waves of young men sent to their death. On top the discontent within will rise and I am not sure of you are aware but there have already been army recruitment offices set alight. It would imho be the beginning of the end for Putin as he will just fall further into the same hole he is already in. Imho.

The West did the same and called him out on chemical weapons and thus far they haven't been used. Tactics and rhetoric.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed “in principle” to UN and International Committee for the Red Cross involvement in evacuating the Azovstal plant.

The Mariupol city council has said about 100,000 residents across the city are “in mortal danger” because of Russian shelling and unsanitary conditions, and described a “catastrophic” shortage of drinking water and food.
