Reference fishing if you read up on it, if we seize back control of our own waters with full sovereignty then that leaves Normandy trawlers competing with the Dutch and the Belgians for depleting stocks in the Channel and Norway which has huge sustainable fishing grounds have said they won't let EU (nor UK) ships continue to fish their waters (sustainable fishing grounds for Cod and herring). It needs a new trilateral agreement. It wouldn't be too long before all the fish and chip shops on the continent sell chips with your chips. It actually is a big deal for the Dutch, Belgians and the French and Germans and other landlocked countries.
It is a huge bargaining chip of the PM's part and yes it can be sabre rattling and posturing but it emphases the point that with full sovereignty that we have full control of our own waters.
Hence in all probability the concession made about the "ratchet effect" being eased at the eleventh hour and no doubt we will give a little re access to our waters. If our fishing grounds have quotas that make the fish in our seas sustainable then in reality if we grant the EU, 5, 7 or 10 years access then to us it should not matter as there will be a continual supply of reproducing and sustainable fish.
They concede a little, we concede a little, they concede a little, we concede a little. Then eventually you get to a deal that is acceptable to all.
All EU countries are in the midst of the same pandemic as we are, AND IT IS IN NOBODY'S INTERESTS TO HAVE A NO DEAL. However long it takes.
The markets will though react positively to any news of a deal and the certainty of knowing what will be happening in the New Year.
