It's a trading update tomorrow, they won't confirm the dividend. That'll come with results in March.

I think the next few weeks are going to be crucial in terms of the divi - if sales pick up, at the normal rate for this time of year, all well & good. I suspect, though, that they won't, in which case I can't see how they can maintain the dividend at current levels. In fact, I hope they don't - it's not sustainable. I'm expecting c. 50% of the previous dividend payment, from all the major builders. So 2.25 - 2.5p. Let's see what they say tomorrow, but 2nd March is the key date (when results are announced).

This is holding up remarkably well considering the grim update from BDEV this morning. Just shows how much bad news is already priced in to the major builders. I can't see the news being significantly better for any of the others either. You have to wonder what impact the reduced volumes are going to have on dividends. The last thing anyone wants is for big dividends to be followed weeks or months later by cash-calls. I don't think we're anywhere near that kind of situation yet, but I don't think the dividends can be maintained at existing levels either. We'll see. K

Going along very nicely now. It'll be interesting to see what Action can do in an extended "normal" period (i.e. with no Covid impact), could be quite impressive I think.

I'm not & never have been in the trade so can't comment on your posts but that just makes it more interesting to get an insight into what goes on. Sounds like a plan zac. I think it's been a tough year for many investors, I know it has been for me. Investing is about the long-term though, so you have to take the rough with the smooth. Let's hope prospects for 2023 soon start to look a bit better.

Joking aside, I'm quite surprised this is holding up as well as it is, given the index is sinking without trace. The market is beginning to look beyond winter in the Northern Hemisphere to the possible increased demand from China and consequent implications for world trade. Let's hope it plays out that way.

Good for you sam!! I've got to wait until next year to get my state pension but in the mean time I'm trying to subsidise my company pension with earnings from my ISA. Seems like one step forward, two steps back at times but overall not doing too badly. Anyway, good luck here and elsewhere, let's hope it's going to be a great year for TMIP-ers everywhere.

Ha ha, he was born in 1958 and therefore the same age as me, so he is definitely not "quite elderly". I'm sure he's got other business interests to manage though, and good luck to him. It's obviously been a full-on role for a NED in the past couple of years with the IPO and subsequent takeover of Grindrod, he's done a great job steering the company through and is probably looking forward to a quieter life.

We'll never agree on everything adv11, and it's been a tough year all round. My average is 116 so it's not great for me either. EAT maintain the dividend at 6% of NAV so they can't directly control the value. The difference for me is that I expect EAT to make a slow & steady recovery from here, with increasing dividends in future years, whereas RLE will have to keep selling properties to pay down their debt and maintain the dividend until, eventually, there's nothing left to sell. You pays your money and takes your choice of course.

Not a great start to the year though, Handysize index now down to 590 and the slump shows no sign of reversing yet. Now the Chairman has resigned with only a day's notice - I'm sure his reasons are genuine, but continuity is always something I look for when assessing a company and no Chair likes giving bad news. Anyway, best not read too much into it or will start getting paranoid, heads down & fingers crossed for better news to come. K
