RE: On from here.21 Jan 2024 22:38
Guys, just relax and enjoy whats coming.
But yea, IG have 85ish mil, so a short ~6mil closed, HOWEVER they are not always printed, there was alot of selling and profit taking on friday, IG only buy or sell shares if necessary to offset risk, for a small number of shares they wont .
Probably easier to think of short positions on IG as betting rather than actual short shares but I understand why people get confused...
When you buy a share you own the share, its in your account, thats what most of us on here do, when we decide to sell, we sell the share and done.
The shorting we all are familiar with is where a broker for example will fill an order, sell you or I shares that we want to buy but the broker does not have (YET) that is naked shorting and the broker expects to cover that by other PIs selling. The other form is people who approach a platform like IB, and "borrow" x million shares, they get placed in your account for a fee and you have x days to return. You can just let them sit there or you can sell hoping to buy back cheaper.
What we see on IG is different.
Some people who use SpreadBets or CFDs BET/Gamble the SP will go UP (They buy) or DOWN (They Sell) IF there are 2 people and one goes long 1m shares, the other goes short 1m shares they cancel each other out, IG wont have to buy or sell any shares on the market to cover. If that was the ONLY shareholders in Hemo on IG it would show 50% short with zero trades printed anywhere. There was a fair bit of selling/profit taking on Friday, if the shorts were closing at the same time then they would zero out some of the sells from profit takers meaning IG would not have to buy shares on the market to cover. Bottom line is we dont know the exact numbers AND IT DOES NOT MATTER.
The shorts are closing, trolls have moved on, FDA have like 2-3 weeks max and its looking like a fantastic week ahead.
