Can't quite work out why SYM product is not being approved by the UK government. Presumably the company has held talks in that regard. Unfortunately, SYM has a bad track record when it comes to keeping shareholders informed on such matters. Could it be that the UK is inextricably bound by current EU regulations on plastic degradation? If so, will post-Brexit release UK from the EU's vehement opposition to d2w and everything SYM?.... DYOR

HeresHopin - if you liaise with ESOP, (which I did many years ago) you will get a form which, when submitted to HMRC gets you a 10% refund leaving you with a 15% tax charge, not the 25% withholding tax deducted at source - i.e you end up with the same tax rate as on UK divis. Furthermore, because PLUS is quoted on a UK exchange, I believe the ex-div price is adjusted for the withholding tax element. Re 'incurring 'insignificant CGT' on a sale and repurchase, the 30-day rule has no effect on the tax liability involved. During 2018.19 the basis for calculating CGT is the same for purchase / disposals made under the 30 days rule, as for shares sold having held them for say, 5/10 years. The gains are added to personal chargeable income for that year and CGT is based on each taypayer's personal tax bands, which clearly could result in significant CGT payable.... DYOR

HeresHopin - there's a very good reason to wait for the divi if you're an LTH - for UK taxpayers, first £2,000 divi income in 2018/19 is tax-free. Also, LTHs hare no doubt sitting on significant unrealised capital gains, which attract 10% or 20% CGT on disposal. If you don't need to sell, why create an unnecessary tax liability? Finally, once PLUS goes ex div, there is no guarantee that you will be able to buy back in @ $1.30 less than the cum div price. DYOR

surprised - definitely a 'must listen'. 39 minutes of informative dialogue from the CEO. A great explanation to justify SYM's superior and inexpensive benefits when comparing them to the compostable' alternatives produced by EU-based companies, which are supported by EU regulation. Didn't realise that when biodegrading, 'compostables' release vast quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere causing even more harm to the global ecological system. Perhaps if /when? Brexit happens, the UK government will recognise SYM's UK-produced products and help promote them as a useful contributor to defeat global pollution. NIA & DYOR

Here is an extract from an article published some time ago, but possibly relevant to this latest negativity. Could this be seen as EU vindictiveness for the outcome of the UK Brexit referendum???

Last year, the Notice regarding the Q1 trading update was issued on 11th April stating that the update would be published on 26th April.

All day we saw computer trading in nominal units, which enabled the MMs to mess around with the SP. Come the market close today and two substantial purchases, which brought the SP back up to yesterday's close. Roll on to the next update.... DYOR

Price movements during the day appear to be based on day traders selling in units of tens and hundreds - the MMs are having a field day knocking down the SP in the process. However, when it comes to the matching bargains in the 5 minutes after the market closes, there have been substantial transactions in units of tens and hundreds of thousands and mostly 'buys' at that. Results out next month and fairly confident with an upward movement in the SP. DYOR.
