DK, only just come in and noticed your reply. Your building 7 point makes no sense - if staged why would a building collapse that hadn't had a suitably staged impact. That would be the act of pretty dumb conspiracists! If a Government were to instigate such an atrocity in their own country would they choose to destroy their own financial infrastructure, including wealth producing humans, which was massively important to it own wealth and future? I don't buy a conspiracy theory on this, any more than America felled the Twin Towers. If there were such a conspiracy for political reasons (for either event) the same effect could be achieved with far less destruction, just by showing vulnerability due to ease of attack - as reports unfold there seems to be massive damage to the refineries. Whether the strikes were effectively Iran is another matter, clearly the Trump administration think that is the case so a firming of sanctions is likely....or is it, since that would lead to even greater pressure on PoO which the orange one is less than keen on? Interesting times

Agree Beerbull. There is a history of infighting until the West decides to play at being World policemen, then they temporarily bury their differences and collectively round on them instead! Of course things were so much better when Blair appointed himself to keep the peace there.....

The unknowns are how quickly that infrastructure can be repaired, and also whether the success of this operation leads to a likelihood of repeat attacks on SA refineries in the future. A sprawling refinery full of highly inflammable substances must be very hard to defend. Can only assume that SA will dispense robust retribution to try to deter further attacks, and given that they are armed up to the gills will all the highest tech military hardware, courtesy of the West, you have to assume that will happen. Just have to hope that it is confined to drones hitting hardware rather than involving too many humans.

Its a difficult moral situation for those on this board. Many here are fully, if not indeed overinvested, in the oil sector, so the prospect of inflated oil prices can only come as welcome. Yet our humanist nature has concerns about another major escalating conflict, even if that conflict is reassuringly in a far off territory. Its up to all of us to reconcile this.

Just briefly, you can roughly attribute the value of a company by (shares in issue x share price + net debt). Think of it as the total amount of finance a 'predator' company would be committing themselves to in order to take control of a 'target'. Hence ECO is nowhere near as valuable as HUR as it has far fewer shares in issue (I'm not sure of its debt as the company doesn't interest me). HUR could make its shares worth c.4.80 on Monday by consolidating their shares, but if you hold 1000 shares now you would only hold 100 'new' shares on Monday evening. Absolute share price means nothing really when comparing 2 companies. Hope that helps.
