yep ihowells, its actually £12300. That is on the sum of capital gains made in the year. How excess is taxed starts to get complicated but I do know if anyone needs advice.
Then you get £2000 exemption on dividend income, paying tax on the excess - again the rate is not straightforward!
It certainly has been implied that the CGT exemption may be reduced or abolished, but that may be exaggerated since it would deter equity investment outside tax efficient wrappers, which is against Tory policy since the Thatcher days.
Also of note is the possibility of Sunak tampering with the 25% allowance when drawing DC pension. I don't rely on my DC pension as I am lucky enough to have a decent DB one in payment, so am thinking of fully crystallising my DB fund before April

I'm with you on this one. There is a risk to holders of total wipe out. Which I would assume is 100% dilution. Compared to that 80-90% would seem infinitely preferable!

Recent participant here, also invested in several other companies in new/ old energy sectors. Only thing I know for sure is that in the future the world will use energy in some form!
Not sure how much I will contribute as I don't know the company well yet, and people wittering on about something they know little about really get to me!

I agree Moneymaker, be interesting to see 2021 guidance. We have seen it drop this year from (I think) c.30,000 to 20,000 troy ounces. Sadly AAU is only just free of debt to enjoy that production, and not only has the production dropped but our interest has more than halved to 23.5%. Thankfully gold price has increased over 2020, I do wonder what is the future for POG given Covid is now hopefully passed its peak and gold as safe haven could be less attractive. To be honest I would have thought POG would have increased this year more than it has.

There is no divi cycle here, at least not yet. Even if there is one established it will be as a result of the distribution of a proportion of a steady income stream, so the company assets increase to the ex div date, reduce then gradually increase again until the next. AAU have not to my knowledge implied that regular dividends are being considered, but if it is the yield wont be anything like 10%. As us regulars how understand the company know the dividend being discussed is a very large one off special dividend which has resulted effectively from selling half AAUs assets in W. Turkey and 75% of assets in NE Turkey. Those assets aren't going to be replaced any time soon. You, me, VanVan etc have discussed this company over several years and know it backwards. I suspect some recent contributors don't.

The logic here is astonishing. The payment of a divi will decrease the MC as the net assets decrease. Seems some expect to have their cake and eat it, maintaining SP while receiving a dividend. All you are really doing is swapping capital in the company for income now.
For the shareholder you are trading capital gains (for income if held outside a SIPP or ISA). Depends what you want. Broadly I prefer Capital Gains as to an extent you can control when you take them. With dividends you are given no latitude on timing, so may be inconvenient in respect of tax.

Agree with you uncleal on what you say. Not been here as long (less than a year I think) and have reached my own 'ideal' holding at an average of over 50% paper profit. I have no plan to sell at present. I like this company, and at the moment like the Ganfeng involvement while realising that they would be (very) hard nosed if necessary. They will indeed drive this sleepy board because this isn't only an investment but are also an end user of the product - the sooner the better for them.
