Refusing to capitulate doesn't mean it wasn't beaten. Japan did not control it's own seas; nothing going out and nothing coming in, was only a matter of time as people started eating human flesh. US did not have to kill hundreds of thousands and radiate areas for decades to come. You are off you f....ng head if you think you should nuke a nation if they do not capitulate. People like you should be put down by law for the sake of humanity.

Unlike you I do have a day job. Further, remember...only country to use nuclear weapons 'twice' is the US. Further, they used it when Japan was already on it's knees and beaten. US was not threatened in any way at the point it was used and that makes it a war crime.

So called five eyes is another example of "do as I say, not as I do". US UK wants to arm Australia with nuclear powered submarines, but are sanctioning Iran for conducting research into nuclear powered submarines.
Nuclear proliferation is ok as long as we choose who gets it............

Soviet Union was broke and was still recovering from WW2; only a fool would believe they would invade NATO countries. Further, from 1957 both the UK and France were armed with nuclear weapons so no need for US to have N-weapons in europe.
And now that Russia is one country with N-weapons only on Russian soil, why do US still keep it's N-weapons in europe?
US UK global doctrine DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO isn't washing any more and they don't like it. World will be a much safer and peaceful place with the new balance of power taking shape; unless US starts another conflict that is!

Cuban missile crisis of 1962 is an example when the old Soviet Union wanted to station nuclear missiles on Cuban soil in response to US stationing the same in Italy and Turkey. US UK approach to global matters has always been "do as I say, not as I do".

The longer this conflict persists, the more difficult it will be for Ukraine to entice its people back to Ukraine as they will have had time to settle in the west. But does such a scenario enter Zelensky's thinking; who appears to be in single pursuit to recapture land lost to Russia due to his incompetent leadership before conflict started. When conflict does eventually end and review begins, expect mud slinging in which Zelensky will not fare very well. Bet he already wishes he stuck to comedy instead.

There's enough production there for the company to meet costs and stay solvent. Production may even increase if Russians stops bombing Ukraine transport infrastructure. The biggest threat remains the situation surrounding dodgy majority owner Constantine Zhevago; which once resolved should provide significant boost to the sp.

@hopeful118...the war will end, and I agree there has been a noticeable change in approach by Zelensky in recent days. I think he is finally coming to terms with the fact that Ukraine's future lies within EU, it will be EU who will rebuild Ukraine and major powers within EU wants him to negotiate peace asap. US UK are only interested in weakening Russia/China axis and so will want to fight Russia to the last Ukranian. He also realises Russia will never want to lose a war on it's door step and will never ever give up Crimea. But he is fully 100% responsible for getting Ukraine into this mess. Recoup what Russia wanted from Ukraine before conflict started.
1) Cede Crimea to Russia. I'm not going to elaborate much except to say unlike Alaska (which US bought from Russia in 1867 for $7m), Crimea was given to Ukraine by Kruchchev (without any quid pro quo few decades ago) and Russia just wanted it back.
2) Ukraine to drop accession ambitions to NATO membership in line with Minsk agreement
3) Ukraine to provide devolved governments for the Donbas region (similar to Scotland, Wales, N Ireland assemblies in UK) which are predominantly ethnic Russian
4) Ukraine to enshrine protection for Russian language and culture in its constitution; Zelensky was going rampant in eliminating all things Russian even in predominantly Russian areas
5) Reign in on the right wing elements in Eastern Ukraine eg. Azov Batallion which Zelensky embraced and who were making life difficult for ethnic Russians.
If Zelensky could go back in time, he would accept all the above without any hesitation, but things have moved on and he has put himself in a very difficult position. Zelensky miscalculated...it's not going to end well for him.
I can see the end peace agreement resembling something like above; may be with a long lease agreement for Crimea extending to over 100 years. As for Zelensky, he will be remembered as a leader who lost 20% of Ukraine to Russia.
It's a warning to others; beware of consequences before putting comedian in charge of the country!

This is correct. There has been a lot of sabre rattling from members in the state Duma eg. nationalising assets of unfriendly countries etc but this is just bluster. Russia needs foreign investment/technology and they're not going to jeopardise that. But allowing Shell payment have added some rocket fuel to the sp; builds confidence that POLY's assets are safe and raising hopes that POLY should be able to divest business away from Russia in the near future should it decides to do so. Also favourable trend in USD/Rub exch rate and gold above $2k oz and holding is positive indeed for POLY.
It appears big-baloney's various theories is being shot to pieces one by one: and sub £2....dream on!

@ND...ThnX. sp is proving resilient, can't see the bus reversing from hereon and cannot wait for production update on 2 May. Further, production is set to rise in coming years with predicted rise in price of gold as well.....POLY's own forecasts:
1.65 M oz for 2023
1.70 M oz for 2024
1.70 M oz for 2025
1.80 M oz for 2026
Company forecasts positive cash flow for 2023 and has enough cash balance already to meet loans maturing in 2023.
I think we're in very good position.

With gold over $2k oz and USD/RUB exchange rates moving in POLY favour, sp of sub $2 is now looking more remote than ever. Not surprised Big-Baloney have decided to go underground....

@chique...good point. US have consistently voted against China who wanted a bigger role both within the IMF (macro level) and the World Bank (micro level).
Being rejected repeatedly, China then set up its own 'Belt & Road' initiative to 'rival' the world bank; not without its problems but an overall success for China, and to which US and the west have no answer.
Setting up rival to IMF will be a multi-government approach and at present remains work in progress. I have no doubt the Chinese will make that happen too in the near future.

@ND..you're not alone, I'm also invested in POLY entirely through trading account and so will deal with what may come. Whilst redom to Kaz appears highly likely, I'm not rulling out DR's listing in a friendly jurisdiction to both the warring groups eg. HDR listing in Hong Kong which was the 3rd option (behind Kaz and Abu Dhabi) for redom when I logged a call to POLY IR back in early Feb; but he did say at the time that any listing in HK would involve significant overhaul to company structure and would be time consuming, but POLY and Nesis may feel this may be necessary to preserve shareholder value. I'm not jumping to any conclusions and remain optimistic. The fact POLY have escaped umpteen rounds of sanctions despite having substantial business in Russia is a good omen.

@PippaP...amazing that is; about time it gets reflected in the sp which has hardly moved today. USD to Ruble is moving in right direction as well ($1 = 78.67 Rub)and gold is holding

@Mevelum...both politics and economics is heavily intertwined with price/demand for gold and POLY trades in gold only. Further more than 50% of POLY's investments are in Russia adding a further twist, so discussion on politics is totally relevant on this board, in the same way eg. when Covid talk was relevant during pandemic with pharma companies producing vaccines.
I accept there are some undesirable elements on this board (mention no names) who consistently shoot from the hips trying to take us for fools, but you have an option of putting a block should you wish to do so.

Russian reaction to possible use of depleted uranium shells (legal as it may be) by Ukraine is worrying, and Zelensky knows that. He also knows the uphill task he faces in dislodging Russians from its soil; no easy task. Does he put his people and armed forces through more of the same, when he knows Russia will never ever give up Crimea. Zelensky also knows of waning support in the west eg. Kevin McCarthy, House Leader in US have turned down invitation from Zelensky to visit Ukraine; both De Santis and Trump are against more funding for Ukraine; elections coming up in UK in end 2024 and Sunak will be looking to end the war etc etc Zelensky HAVE TO make the last counter attack pay and that is not guaranteed. He has put himself between a rock and a hard place. We wish him all the best....
