The win streak continues across Asia this morning after positive cues from Wall St overnight. Tokyo, HK & Shanghai are all ahead mostly on local factors bouyed by advances in financials and techs in HK. Australia sees weakness in Materials and the Mining sector and sits just below the 7000, a few points up on the day.
Gold has stabilised somewhat this week but struggles to hit $1800. With 10/ytb yields down US equities up and the USD easing some analysts predict Gold falling to $1650 by year end as the Fed plots slower economic growth and lower non energy commodity prices dampening advances for bullion.
Demand for Jewelry a driver of gold prices has been hit by a rise in import duty from 7•5% to 12•5% in India but offset by demand from China and the ME. In vol terms demand is expected to be little changed this year.
