Hmmmm, 45p? Can't see that happening LH. Now Bhukia is in the clutches of the Gov of India the can has just been kicked further down the road into never never land. Its a shame were so far behind the balk line because its most unlikely we will benefit from a resurgent gold price ($1700) at London close. That unfortunately is happenstance but true nevertheless.

I'm not sure I would have supported the 10m share raise anyways which I agree is at a giveaway price. The mrkt would have been more impressed if they had priced the placing at 7•5 which would have sent out a more positive message, but that was never going to happen.

Oh well I guess we can be thankful that we escaped a RI which we would have been obliged to support at a most inconvenient time. Nevertheless its a dilution by stealth for all holders of Panthera.

Should have gone for a bigger raise of at least £1,000,000. They'll be back for more next year...

Truss backtracks on the 45% top tax rate (a sweetener) for the rich. Another self inflicted wound by a floundering PM who will be done down by events especially the unfunded tax cuts and the £400 non targeted giveaway for all and sundry.

This constant chopping and changing is seriously damaging our credibility with the city and overseas investors. I'd be very surprised if they dont consider Kwatengs growth plan an extremely high risk gamble with the Nations finances and one they are not prepared to risk with their money.

A Chancellor who didn't realise that a cut in taxes for the richest in society wasn't a very very stupid move in the current circumstances is obviously an idiot and should consider his position.

Mostly lower across the Far East & Pacifica, only Tokyo posting small gains this morning. Wall St's down close on Friday and over Sept has kept buyers on the sidelines with no incentive to invest in these volatile times.

The Ftse is called 56 lower this morning and Wall is expected to open over 100 higher. Noteworthy financial data released this week includes Sept non farm payrolls on Friday.

Another shocking week of losses ended a torrid week & month for investors that sent the 3 major averages toppling into a bear trap. End Q selling by institutional investors didn't help the Bulls battling against the odds as investors cashed in their chips.

The DJI the most widely watched barometer hit a new 52 wk closing low and trades 21% down ytd. The S&P is off 25% its worst drop since 2008 and the Nsdq 100 has slumped 33% back to levels last seen in 2020. Many investors are hoping Oct turns out a "Bear" killer as its usually associated with strong gains (44 up months, 28 down) and on average posts positive returns (+•70%) (forget Oct 1987). However sceptics warn that negative economic fundamentals are likely to overwhelm seasonal trends.

Companies reporting saw Carnival crash 23% back to 1993 levels of $7 a share. Reporting a $770m loss as debt and rising rates torpedo'ed the stock other cruise lines sank in sympathy (Norwegian down 18%). Nike who earn 50% of their revs outside of the US fell 13% due to heavy discounting. Weaker margins and a stronger USD kicked the stock down 50% this year to 2019 levels.

Meanwhile on Main St the Commerce Dept reported that consumer spending increased •4% last month despite prices climbing more than expected in August, where the CORE PCE Index (ex food & energy) rose 4•9%. Yet again Main & Wall travel to a different tune.

Hmmm,not sure I liked the tone of the report especially in relation to Bhukia.
We are as far away as ever for a resolution. In the meantime WA will have to carry our hopes but the shares offer more hopium than I expected at this stage of operations.

Goldstone reported interim this morning, almost makes me glad to be holding Panthera stock!

As HK closed Dow futures were staging a recovery which is now over 150 better boding well for a strong finish to a very poor week. The ftse has been dragged higher in the face of Labour polls showing them 33 points ahead. I think that's more to do with the GBP off its $1•03 lows than a snap poll. Anyway its early days, with an election unlikely to be called until the full term, many are speculating Truss will be on her bike back to whence she came, friendless and soon forgotten.

I can't see Boris getting involved in this economic mess worsened by Tory infighting. Carry on like this and the nearest Witherspoons will do fopr their conference. So the Tories will have to pray Truss's gamble with growth pays off and the BOE don't crater the economy in the meantime. Lots need to go right for the Tories to survive.

Either way that leaves the 'Blues' in a quandary, do they stick with loser Truss, odds on to be wiped out, go for broke with BJ (if he can be persuaded) or find a new face for 2029/2030 election. Not much of a choice given Labour are highly unlikely to screw up such a monumental lead.

On a day of steep stock price declines the Dow was off 630 at the starting gun.

Apple got the 'treatment' from investors falling 4% following a downgrade by BOA as the new i phone has not met company expectations. The stock has been an under-performer these last 6 months down 21% to $143. WB saw the value of Berkshire's stake in Apple tank $9bn on Tuesday. He has a 6% stake in Apple (16bn shares in issue).

Airlines & Cruise stocks (Carnival report today) were hit on cancellations due to Hurricane Ian devastating parts of Florida. American the largest US airline by passengers carried is down 35% this year to $12. The Co has been fighting an uphill battle since 2018 when it traded at $58.

WB had an open line to an Airline drug 'counselling service' whom he would call whenever he got the urge to buy airline stocks! He must have taken their advice as he sold out of his air positions in 2020 taking an est $7-8bn hit. However he does own through EJA & Netjets (fractional ownership) the largest private jet fleet in the world est to be over 500.

On the economy the latest jobless claims report came out stronger than expected. The nos of Americans filing new claims fell to a 5 month low as the labour mrkt remains resilient and consumer spending was stronger than previous estimates. A round up of all the latest economic data points to a stalling economy rather than a recessionary one.

At the close all 3 major indices are in bear territory. There have been few safe havens for investors to hide this year. However there are winners, oils are up 12% (Chevron the best performer on the Dow) Healthcare, Pharma & Biotech have also held up well.

As Q3 ends today the S&P is on course for the longest run of Q losses since the global financial crisis, whereas the USD index will post gains for the 5th straight Q its best run since 1998. Sept is living up to its bad reputation as historically its the worst month for stocks (40 down years/ 32 up) and....... October is just round the corner (44 up & 28 down) years, surprise surprise.

Since Sept 9 two Board Directors have being buying the company stock. Michael Bell (Exec Chairman) has purchased 15,500 at various prices and Mr O'Connell the Finance Director bght 3000 at 323•89 today. Both have large holdings in the company amounting to in total 26•7%.

Shareholders like to see Directors putting their money to work in the company, afterall with such large holdings they had no need to add. That says to me they see value in the stock despite it trading at near historic highs.

I shall top up my stake at the earliest opportunity.

Thanks for that metom but not sure anything I post is from an expert point of view (who needs experts?)....more just stream of thinking. And as I used to get tired of saying... "I wouldn't give myself a stock tip" so bear that in mind!!

I hope your investments are performing better than PAT! Still I'm in it for the longhaul as inevitably share price ups'n downs get smoothed out over time and i dont like to panic sell at near historic lows. So once we're through the current economic crisis prices and valuations will likely revert to normal times if we escape a global recession and all the knock on effects.

As it is the DJI isn't far off one bad day on the mrkt of hitting 52wk lows (28,958) which would be a drop of 7842 points from Jan 3rd this year.
Is this a correction in an over enthusiastic bull mrkt or a horrid prolonged bear mrkt? No'one knows and don't expect to hear the bell ring for joyous times ahead.

Here's the thing, some with hindsight are saying the slump on the S&P/Mrkts started on Jan 3rd this year and are calling that the start of the official bear market (a stretch I know). Even if we concede that, it would mean this bear mrkt ends on the 19th, Oct 2022. We shall see.

Everyone of the stocks I follow are being given the cold shoulder by the squiggly line theorists and tech analysis sites. Good. I consider that to be a raging buy signal.

Needless to say Panthera suffers the worst of the abuse.....strong sell, sucker stock, blah blah, again another buy signal imo. Really if you believed half the stuff dolled out by these sites (most of them disappear the next day) you'd never get out of bed for 99% is aimed to instill fear in investors.

I just caution you having been caught out before that where there's a tip there's a tap.

I don't see how you can divorce politics from finance when they so obviously effect one another especially in times of economic crisis. Ask RR shareholders, their board is swamped with political commentary not much in the Govt's favour.

I agree comment on PAT should strictly be focused on those matters effecting the company, but not exclusively. I don't think I overdo the political slant and sure filter me that's fine but it's only my view afterall and worth no more than yesterday's chip shop paper.

Gama Aviation nos please, reducing debt, increasing revs and net cash of $39m bode well for H2 if we can escape the worst of the rise in inflation and rate hikes peaking at 6%? Solid hold.

Serve the Tories right when they allow the little old ladies down the Safron Walden WI knitting pullovers for hubby, choose the next PM, its odds on a screw up is round the corner. To a man the MPs wanted Sunak, well versed in economics and responsible financial theory.

At least Sunak was steeped in finance (MBA) Stamford Univ, Goldwyn Sachs, Sec to Treasury & Chancellor, no better CV than that on the planet. Contrast Truss who barely passed her GCE O level and as far as I know the nearest she ever came to logarithms was as Sec of State for Trade, is now in charge of running an economy in crisis.

As many forecast 'events' will do her down for when the mrkts sense weakness they go for blood. Many can't square the circle of cutting taxes etc and raising rates which will increase people's mortgages and much else. Even the most avid roulette player knows a strategy of doubling up is a recipe for disaster (you will still lose).

Is it to late for a rethink that the IMF have called for?

Asia is lower this morning following the mixed signals from the 'Street'. The 225 is down over 600 with weakness across all sectors, no major gainers. At the BOJ Policy Meeting it was agreed by 8-1 to maintain int rates at (-0•1%) as the economy is trending higher as the effects of Covid-19 wane and inflation remains steady at c.3%.

Add the massive Govt Bond purchases and the expansive monetary policy to keep finance costs of companies low has enabled Japan to protect the consumer from the ravages of inflation plaguing Western economies. Yen weakness has helped large Japanese companies with global operations to boost their profits at home.
