Lloyds last uk bank to report today.Impairments impact eroded 46& jump in profits before impairments to 9Bn in 22 from 6.2Bn in 21.surging profits before impairments result of 2.94% NIM for full year and 3.22% in 4th qtr. expect NIM in 23 to be excess of 3.05% but less than that of 4th qtr. mild recession in 23 reflected in 1.5Bn impairment charge for 22. early signs of stress in llower balance accounts and less activity in mtge lending. sp dropped over 2% but curtailed by 2Bn share buy back programme.
mkt cap = 33.5Bn ; p/e = 8.21 and dy =4.29%.

As for Ryanair I have an order in for 10000 shares at €14.25 with the order expirying on the 24 February. very close to closing the order today but who knows might close by 5pm today.
Also sold 3500 BIRG shares this morning at €10.1 with an order in to sell another 5000 at 10.20 at which point might sell remainder of BIRG holding of 25000. Projecting future earnings gives p/e of 7.3, eps growth 21%, div yd 7.1% and price to tangile book value 0.95.

Current SP = 622p with Mkt Cap of 123 Bn. Div yd = 3.49% and P/E ratio = 12.3.
5 yr low SP was 283p in Sept 2020 and 5 year high was 732p in May 2018.
1 year low was 434.7p while 1 year high = 623p

HSBC today report pretax earnings of 5.2 Bn for 4th qtr from 2.7BNn in 2021- a rise of 92% as rising rates surged NII. but its shares fell 2% in Hong Kong as investors feel rate hikes may have peaked. special dividend of $0.21 to be paid.

bullish report today from Goodbody expecting financials to outperform in 2023, but not as strongly as 2022 which is hardly surprising considering they double in 2022.

interesting to note that SP of both Barclays and Nat West dropped by over 8% on release of results on wednesday and this morning - Barclays from 186p to 170p and NW from 305p to 280p

Nat West results out.pre tax profit up more than a third to £5.1BN .Div of over 10p. SP down over 8% this morning from 308p last night to 280p this morning.
EPS = 24.7p with 16% annual growth over last 5 years.
Div yd = 4.04%
Mkt Cap = 29Bn.
surprised to see 8% drop in sp after announcing profits increase of more than one third.
morning of 7 march should be interesting.

not being short with you but just reporting figs from yesterday's results with the PBT figure of 7 Bn after allowing for apparently a once off provision of 1.2 Bn.
Just looking at the 5 year cycle of Barclays from early 2018 and their 5 year high was c 215 and 5 year low c 80p. They took an initial hit yesterday of over 5% and SP now around 170/172p level and div yd of 4.18%. The contrast between Barclays and BIRG is remarkable as Barclays current SP is c 15% below their 5 year high whereas BIRG is up 750%.
Also Barclays Mkt cap if over 27Bn with PBT figure of 7 Bn and BIRG's 10.5 Bn with PBT of € X ( lets assume 1.2Bn) just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.
Having said that I don't anticipate Barclays SP going through the roof any time soon but 25% growth from current level puts them at 2.13 (about their previous 5 yr high) whereas BIRG would be at 12.25/12.50 which is TP of Davy and another Broking house in last few days.
Mkts do their own thing but find it hard to justify the Makt putting a value of less than 6 Bn on BIRG in June and 11 Bn a couple of weeks ago when sp went over €10. imo 1 of these valuations is out of sync - either June well undervalued or now over valued, Nothing has fundamentally changed in last 6 months- everybody knew about rate increases, KBC discussions commenced 18 months ago-Davy deal completed over 7 months ago.

conflicting reports on Barclays results today. PBT reported as £7Bn and net income as £5Bn.
NIM reported as 3.52% for 2022 with 3.21% projected for 2023 while a current NIM figure of 2.86% also reported.
It's P/E ratio = 5.53 whereas BIRG = 11.
Capitalised value = £26.93BN with PBT figure of £7Bn. . BIRG = €10.5Bn with PBT = and NIM = 1.85.
Interesting to compare with Nat West on friday.

Barclays report full year figs for 2022 tomorrow while Nat West do likewise on friday. Lets see if they blow us to 10 or back to 9.

The PBT figure in 2021 was 1221million with a tax charge of 166 million giving a PAT figure of 1055million of which 1048million attributable to shareholders and 7 million to non controllable interests. 60% of this would be about 628million or c.58c per share.
reports today from some UK Bankers expressing concern of the probability of having to increase provision for bad debts arising from rising interest rates, rising utility bills etc.

recent statement from CFO of AIB stated the Bank intends to bo "beyond and above" it's current dividend policy of 40-60% pay out ratio in the period 23 -25 and that at current price to book value management very focused on buying back its own shares. can understand such a policy with 2.6bn shares.
As BIRG have repeatedly stated in the past their max pay out ratio is 50% might be interesting to see if they follow AIB and increase to 60%.
