Germany woes - related/or unrelated24 Dec 2024 15:03
Just wanted to share my thoughts on Germany.
They were known for ruthless efficiency, excellent quality, hard working, some would argue that this was years in making in the aftermath of ww2, probably similarly to Japan.
Sole focus on a demilitarised economy focused recovery.
I used to work for our family business from the mid 80s, we were clothing manufacturer of ladies outerwear to high street multiples, our biggest customer being C&A Germany, France and the UK.
Business was booming for UK companies , and to keep Germany happy, our quality control measures were extraordinary.
Then with the EU they started to centralise their buying all from Brussels, and the orders we received were for hundreds of thousands of garments for most countries in Europe. Business continued to thrive and this even continued in the early years of the new Labour government.
But then there was a turning point, and my hunch is it was the beginning of mass migration, exacerbated by 9/11, and ever since a gradual decline in many countries fortunes.
And my feeling is that we here in the UK benefitted far more from being in Europe at countries like Germanys expense.
I personally think that a country like Germany would benefit from a Brexit event, whereas we are suffering considerably as a result of it, because we don't have the same work, quality ethic that they do.
And without getting political, I think the strain of mass migration is what is impacting the German economy, they are tied to the EU, and unlike us they would thrive again if independent.
We won't because of the lazy entitled mentality of British people now.
Take Spain and Italy, waiting and hospitality is a cherished and we'll regarded profession, that they take pride in.
Would English people take these jobs willingly and with pride. No I think.
There's clearly a huge problem in Germany now, that is see as a result of years and years of migration, resulting in a strained economy, and a changed mentality.
The people here that voted for Brexit ( probably a majority) voted because their sister or Aunt is 32345 on the housing list, and some European families were housed straight away on arrival.
Very short sighted imo.
And i will finish my rant by saying that the only way I see brexit working here is a repeat of what Germany and Japan did after the war, a slow build with sole focus on our economy.
But the problem we have is our governments think we're some world super power, and they're in every other country's business at the expense of our own. For example 3 bill pledged to Ukraine every year. Really can we afford that on a sustainable basis.
Rant over
Merry Xmas all.
