RE: MHRA27 Dec 2020 10:20
Sorry to hear about you experiences with this awful disease Tullaghan. I'll keep my political views to myself on the Covid related front as I could write a book on that (its easy to be an expert after the fact I suppose) but what I would say is I am also baffled as to how cancer takes a sideline, were not talking STI's and the common cold here, were talking about what has been the biggest killer for many years now!
The govt spent £520m on eat out to help out(appreciate business has to be protected BUT)......surely some of that money would be better spent as R&D grants to companies like AVCT who have potentially revolutionary advances in medicine here. AVCT had to raise £40m via a placing to progress their therapeutics work, which otherwise would have been sidelined for a long time. Maybe I am a bit of an AVCT obsessive but how can the govt spend billions on shady PPE deals but AVCTs therapeutics not get a look in for funding.
Anyhow....I ramble on with my post xmas musings.
AVCT became caught up in the Covid stock rush back in Mar/Apr. Some invested here as part of that, at all time high SP's and things haven't progressed at the pace they may have liked them to in terms of return. I get that.
However, I just cant see how this business is put in that same league as other Coid plays. There is infinitely more going on here than Covid and longer term I feel it will pay off hugely. I just depends if you are willing to wait.
I will defend AS to the hilt on how he has run this business.
- Raised £40m to progress the "bread and butter" therapeutics projects of this company at minimal discount on AIM, attracting big name institutional investors. Those II's have done their due diligence....brilliant business in my view.
- Expanded licensing deals with some of the worlds biggest pharmas (LG Chem / Daewoong). Would they do that if they saw no commercial value in Avcts products? No.
- Agreed licensing deals for Affimers in non COvid related areas - we are now get paid for people to simply use our IP, what does that tell you? No workload on AVCT's end but money through the door.
- Not once have AVCT been mentioned in the shady goings on around Covid testing i.e. poor performance, mates rates etc etc.
- The man is remunerated in options that can only be exercised once SP and performance related milestones are met. What better way to show you are incentivised at shareholders interest?
He isn't without fault. However, I feel he is mainly guilty of being naive to how slow third parties can be, especially when they are Govt related. All the Covid work, we had the affimers created months ago! He was excited about what they could do. Sorry to say that his expectations of producing a final product fell at the Cytiva/BBI/CONDOR hurdles.
What I think is great though, is he is still waiting until a top quality product that uses Affimers is available and has been through all the right channels. As I said before, look at Innova.....their reputation is shot
