You are spot on. You should read her stuff on Diageo....it's diabolically puerile. She is an associate analyst. Not even specialising in retail. Carrington is spot on

It is relative in the sense that M&S's current volatility is linked to the current uncertainty towards key FTSE 100 stocks and little to do with M&S's performance if that makes sense

I am surprised the media are making such an issue about Ashstead listing in NY and leaving London. Nearly 98% of profits are from the US so makes absolute sense to be listed there. Really irresponsible journalism to infer that the reason related to anything more

I hope Stuart has briefed up with S. Times as the huge unlocked potential offered now the redevelopment can go ahead. He also needs to talk about the high level of architectural thought going into the replacement but it is the potential that he needs address plus the issue of earnings hit when current store closes

Jimjam, it will be interesting to see what analysts come out with on the comparative costs of redevelopment or refurbishment. The redevelopment will throw up vast amount of new space for sales areas and offices. I suspect analysts will see the decision as very favourable

I know many will be unhappy at losing an art deco building but Oxford St is so down at heel any redevelopment will enhance. There will be ramifications following this decision on M&S Kings Rd. If the development of that store means losing M&S there will be fury. I suppose tomorrow analysts will be chewing over the decision and we might see SP movement on the back of that....hopefully positive

That would be a surprise. Angela Rayner will be making the decision and so we can be assured that no leaking will come from her. She has a rep for absolute discretion and probity!

Excellent and informative article. I like the way the manager quotes Machin. This is the vast gulf between poor old Waitrose and M&S.....the innovators at Waitrose have no one to be inspired by.
