maybe i am naive but if you 'won't touch the stock at any price' it does seem rather strange you consider with your aggressive and unpleasant posts. you have made your position clear albeit in a rather co**** way so surely you should move on? every uk company with a significant workforce is faced with same dilemma with these hikes. how each meets the challenge will be the driver. norman has been at a senior level in retail since his kingfisher days. i have every confidence in his ability to move through this difficulty more so than i have in your hysterical predictions.

There is a contingent here who are Buffett like and hold the stock for the long term. They have the same sort of confidence that early-day Next investors had. Then others who just trade the stock . The two sets will never agree so no point in them conversing! Me? I have done what one is never supposed to do and put all my eggs in the M&S basket. Yes, brokers get things wrong but at least 6 world class analysts with a combined experience of probably 80 years are confident. They may even be smarter than you at spreadsheets. For these reasons I prefer to be a shareholder in this retailer than any others. Norman and Machin are cautious Scots. They are never ones to over egg the cake. I am not a trader. I am looking at a 3 year horizon and feel confident.

If the projections are correct we will see a slew of interest rate cuts in the year ahead. My problem is that is I am sitting on substantial profits. If I sell 40% of my gain goes to the most incompetent gov in living memory apart from the one that proceeded it. If I consider MKS to be a highly defensive stock then I suppose I should grit my teeth on. What is the point in moving into cash if one has to take a 40% hit?
