well no one has in the last 10 years+ and no reason to expect this to change. Unless I am mistaken, and I have said it before there does not seem to be any correlation between volume of ADR in the us to the uk price.
hi Nige, I think for the layman (apologies to any professionals) there is no way of knowing what is going on with regard to price manipulation or simple market forces. I am still of the opinion there is no grand master plan in place and that the price is at todays value probably right, though I certainly do believe it will rise slowly over the months, what do I have to back that theory up, absolutely nothing apart from trying to assess its value in todays market and its future direction. Clearly Liberty Global and Goldman Sacs are key players but when you look at the ownership of many companies these names hold a lions share in addition to other investment funds and trusts. If you look at Simplywallst you will see something that would add to anyones conspiracy theory about games, bids and price suppression. Have a look at the top shareholders and the recent update shows that LG holds the same amount of shares as it did months ago with no percentage change. Goldman Sachs however have increased their holdings by 536.11% in the same period and now hold slightly less than GL. in addition public holdings has gone down from over 10% in a 6 month period to now only 0.8%. Now I could of all the reasons why this is happening and that such data could support the theories that are dominant on this PB, however this type of scenario features in many other companies that are and have not been subject to bids, proven price manipulation or anything else. For me all of this means that no matter how much data I read, trends I follow or company accounts I read ,I haven't really got a clue about what really drives a share with the exceptions of good fundamentals and gut instinct. I do though love reading the posts and view points as it always leads me to question the choices I have made and that is not a bad thing.
NigeCo - from all the previous data, trades and history I cannot see any correlation with the US ADR to the UK ITV market. Am I misunderstanding this relationship and if not why is the uk share price not reacting in the way you seem to believe it should.
I hope no one takes offence to this post but I have to put my point of view across. It seems that every post is leading to the allusion of a bid where there appears to be no substance. The increased ADR was interesting but even the recent purchase in the US of millions of shares is a mere drop in the ocean to those issued. Does anyone think that any institution would expose their hand in such a way knowing that it would raise suspicion that in itself would lead to speculation and price hike before an offer was made. It appears that every time the price goes up its met with excited speculation of significant rises, when it goes down numerous posts advise 'games are being played'. Could it simply not be that the share is priced right with a benchmark of £1.28 that is being tested and challenged but holding firm. I, like any investor or interested party would love an attempted hostile takeover for the obvious financial benefits but the reality is that speculation of a bid has gone on for over a decade and nothing has changed. Why would anyone want to pay a premium price when not so long ago the share was 50% cheaper than it is today, and where the exchange rate was (previously) favourable to a US bidder. Again there is nothing of measurable substance that justifies the on going speculation that appears relentless and without foundation. It is not my intention to upset or offend anyone as I believe all views are posted in good faith but for me I will be content with stability and a gradual increase that is based on its worth. I will continue to hold for that reason and not in the hope of a bid that is unlikely to occur. Would I like to be proven wrong, absolutely but in the meantime let's just wait to see what market forces bring.
Hello all, I can see from the links posted that the volume has significantly increased over the last few days, but, what does it mean? what if anything is it indicating or is this just part of a cycle that is the norm for lots of similar shares listed in the US. Sorry for being naive but I genuinely don't understand the excitement or impact.
Lots of insightful posts. My view is that the trading statement is as expected. The future unknowns will be the impact once various government schemes are tapered off and impact on sales and completions. I have bought into TW. for the long haul as believe it is a good company that is focused on stability. As far as I am concerned dividends are a bonus as and when they occur. So much talk of a special bonus that was never on the cards but future trading updates will give indications for 2022. The pandemic is not over and keeping a healthy cash balance might just help to negate what might lie ahead. I will be happy to see a gradual increase in the share and I am confident (barring a black swan event) this will happen. Just like their houses let's be content with solid foundations.
I do agree with Stewart in addition to the low share price at that time the pound was weak against the dollar meaning it was even more attractive then from a US takeover. My belief is that this share will grow and increase in price but it will do it by its own valition and market worth.
Can't be sure but the American markets were spooked today by on going and substantial selling of broadcasters. WSJ states "Shares of ViacomCBS and Discovery, which were among the stocks subject to big block sales last week, continued falling as well. ViacomCBS fell 6.4%, and Discovery dropped 1%". If this is the reason then it will only have been sentiment that drove the price down. Wall Street is currently up so not that spooked. Hoping that this blip will be corrected in the coming days and continue its steady (but slow) rate of increase.
fascinating insight and food for thought. Don't quite know what to make of the analysis. The only thing that's clear from the chart is that following that large uncrossing trade a period of sustained share price rise took place. I am just hoping for gradual increases anything else will hopefully be a bonus, but to be truthful I have no idea where the price is heading but I do have a reasonable amount of confidence with ITV even though patience is probably required.
Massive increase for GS. Still don't understand implications/risk or benefit.

Does anyone have a view on the rise of institutions now approaching and owning nearing 90% of iTV, general ownership by the public has reduced from its previous 15%. Don't know if anything can be read into this. Any views please or insight.
