Indeed Pentland are pulling the JD Sports strings.
For example, if the combined BOD wanted the CEO sacked - usually but not always down to poor performance - then the Chair would be the bearer of that bad news. However, the Chair obviously did not read the script/room properly, and Pentland as majority shareholder then stepped in. To me, it sounded like a personality (or communication issue i.e. lack thereof) clash between the CEO and Chair. Once Pentland stepped in, the BOD fell into line sharply. The result was the CEO stays and the Chair goes at the next AGM.
Summary: Pentland are obviously happy with the performance and direction that the CEO has taken the company to date. Therefore. if Pentland as majority shareholder is happy to date, then other shareholders ought to be happy also.
At this low entry price of 66-69p, I am very happy shareholder indeed.
