I've figured out its best to have disciplines in shares. For instance I have an 8% rule which I'll stretch to 10% in exceptional circs of the total value of one share relative to the overall p/f value. If I feel uncomfortable about any share either in profit or loss I'll sell it,quite subjective that one! I try to keep aims/non yielders outside of my main account and if they're in there it's brief. If I really believe in a tiddler I'll go in heavy as its inevitable I'll sell on the way up.....it worked with jpr but a few didn't!!! I don't sell any share that pays more than 5% but if the SP rises and the yield doesn't I tend to reduce.

Specifically on your question I got back into shares when I lost a packet on rbs that I had for the yield pre-crash and took a wild punt on woollies that didn't come off so through adversity I wanted to get it back!! I made huge mistakes selling quality for small profits and chasing dreams!!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing! The best share is one with a steady div and a rising yield which normally means a steady and unspikey SP in my opinion. Examples are IMT,NG,BP,UU,RDSB...boring stuff in many ways but equally they arnt without risk and there are trading ranges that change. Buy a quality one and keep it. Aim is great fun but most people I know focus more on breaking even than making a profit!!! I've made a lot on money on main and lost a lot on aim but every now and then I make a few bob on an aim which holds my interest,I guess it's all about balance?

And I've kept some POG in the sipp just in case they rocket but flogged the HOC the other day when they went up a lot but will get a few back as sometimes you fret about not having them more than having them?! Bought some zambeef as did one of the directors but that's no guarantee of course!

Had a good afternoon repairing and preserving post and rail and using up a load of free 'spent' engine oil...who needs cuprinol?!! Plumbing eh,hope you got that sorted mate. I vaguely read up on TYM before and the potential size of the resource does seem interesting but we could talk ourselves into any cattle mart stock on that basis mate. I think it depends on whichever ones are 'in vogue' in the short term,longterm I guess the strength of the company finances and those heading it are more critical. I'm loathe to recommend any stock to anyone in case it goes wrong except the big ones that are easier to predict and covered by a decent yield. Langyy is up to speed on the prices and feel of aim ones whereas I just have a few wild stabs in the dark!! I've got a few longterm aims like FOGL,MWA,HHR which I always have in varying quantities and about a dozen I drift in and out of plus the odd newcomer.

I guess quite built up and commutable on the M40(?) so would cost more.

Bought my kaz just under a fiver,got shot and ended up with more thanks to the Eurasian ones so got shot a second time! The only miner I like is BLT at about 16 quid as it pays quarterly but have got them sort of in the blackrock commodities one which pays a higher quarterly div.

I lost a packet on the cooks,bought and sold at the worst times. First group got shot of most of them on the bell of the RI announcement day luckily and dabbled since but out for now. Was wary of the yield value trap so was a nervous holder(says the guy with man group,CLIG,HSD,ELLA and just about every other high yielder in his o/f!!!).

Ag land depends on the size of the parcel as much as any other factors particularly 'hope factor' on pp potential. Smaller plots of a few acres about 8-10 an acre as the pony paddock brigade look for c.2 horses an acre. Woodland plots are a bit different as they appeal to more eccentric buyers in a way. Large acreages of farmland the price drops per acre but they are unlikely to split/sub divide hence the smaller plots are proportionally higher value.

Didn't notice it as did scrip reinvests in their place. Remember when they first fell off a cliff a few years back and revisited in the twenties around a year ago but as is often the way not in a big enough way to notice much!

Well done on bushveld,seems a roller coaster one,thought about them when they had a 2 in front(?) but never did anything about it. Hardly a day trader but do dabble here and there. Talv a big one on its knees and a risky one for sure but out now after buying a few,a few more,panic selling a few and then out today I think overall up enough to fill the truck for the weekend! Noticed speedyhire active again. Held them ages and sold the last lot at 63 thinking I'd missed another recovery one,thankfully out due to my yield obsessions elsewhere!
