Last Qtr dividend equated to 0.0395285 pence per share x 5000 = £197.6425 x 4 = £790.57., However, as Zac rightly points out the exchange rate can alter this slightly

Should read $800M

The total paid by Ineos for the petrochemical business was $5B. Mr Radcliffe was very happy to pay that for it. I dont have access to the profit for that element of BP but something in my memory tells me it was circa $800 per annum, no doubt you will already know the answer to the question

I actually wouldn't have considered the petrochemicals business 'low yield' and it realised $2.3B when sold last year

Perhaps the oil companies do not currently fit with the success criteria for COP26, but realistically they will need to find a way to work with them long term. Do they expect to shut down all gas and oil production ?? We simply could not perform as a society today if that were to happen because we would have economic meltdown throughout the world, not the mention famine on a massive scale. In my opinion we will still be producing oil and gas 40 years from now.

This is a very interesting point. I think it largely depends on the reasons behind the writedown., was it due to the very low price of oil at that time (hence the value of oil in the ground was worth much less) or was it because they realised that much of the asset value of the oil in the ground might never actually be pumped out. If it was the former then I think they should revisit the valuation.

According to my tally ( hopefully not too distorted with fine wine) August buybacks totalled 88,650,903 shares., and September total to date is 118,953,102 shares, giving a combined total of 207,604,005. Sorry but I havn't kept a tally on earlier buybacks.
So almost 208 million shares in past 8 weeks
