Hi Spights, my understanding of the WFT is that it is triggered when profits exceed normal trading levels. How that is determined I'm not sure but if oip prices fall then the profit tranch ranking for WFT will be reduced pro rata, so not sure why Harbour Energy are unduly concerned.

Meoryou my position on that is and always has been the dividend is the primary driver. Can you imagine where this could go if the reinstated 100 % of the dividend. £6 all day long.

Hi Zac, arguably it still is. If you go back to Sep 2018 we were at £5.90 and I think we are in better shape now with debt under control and ongoing buyback programme reducing our exposure to dividends.

Zac, who knows what will happen but we have increased 42% since last Christmas Eve. So why not another 22% next year. I think it's very doable.

Meoryou ., Poor he certainly isn't lol. He does have a warm engaging typically Irish personality but being ceo of BP is not about being liked or otherwise. He does say what he thinks and he is correct about one major issue which is this industry is going to need a lot more investment up to and beyond 2050.

Taverham, I couldn't agree with you more, we have seen clearly that the world simply cannot function without oil and gas, and we will have a long time to wait before the transition to renewable is sufficient to enable the oil wells to be mothballed. It defies logic that the "grettas and stop oil brigade" cannot see (or don't want to see) that reality

Clearly BP are more than able to absorb this additional tax charge even if it is 10%. what I don't understand is if the offset against renewable energy will still apply. Another unknown will be the extent that local authorities will use this situation as an excuse to raise council tax substantially. Have a good day everyone

Meoryou, they are politicians first and foremost. Are they any more intelligent than the rest of us I doubt it. What I would really like to see from Rishi Sunak is to get alongside is Indian counterpart and convince him to stop supporting russia. That would be a master stroke if it were to happen
