The probable cause may be opec meeting today with top 10 members (excluding russia) to discuss how to increase oil production without russia. It seems more like a silly knee jerk reaction if you ask me.
There's anxiety in the industry pending how things play out after Dec 5th when 60$ cap on russian crude comes into play.

Meoryou, if by change in sentiment you mean against fossil fuels in general, then I think a dose of realism is needed. We cannot function without oil and gas and renewable are nowhere near capable of shouldering the load, and will not be in my lifetime. An interesting article I read today saying in USA their power grid is incapable of coping with the current level of transition, and I suspect that will become an issue for most countries in the medium term. Oil is still a very safe harbour for investment and will remain so for decades to come

Good morning Spights, I thought it wad very poignant the way the Iranian team refused to sing their national anthem in protest. They were very dignified and silent but the sound of that silence was deafening. Have a good day and keep up the good work. Opened in strong positive territory today

Owls, we are all in agreement that this windfall tax is unacceptable. When Governments can just step in to assuage the intemperate attitude of the masses just to try to gain popular opinion at the expense of a law abiding company like BP it's a very sad state of affairs. The reality however is that the state gave away billions of money it didn't have to make furlough payments to millions of corporate entities some of which were deserving and many that were simply corrupt and definitely not entitled., in addition, they spent obscene amounts of money on protective kit during the covid pandemic, again, some was appropriate but much of it useless and just reflected the poor judgement within government when handling such matters.
The simple truth is the majority of these things were funded on borrowed money which has to be repaid and we just havnt got the funds to clear these massive borrowings which in annual interest alone exceeds a billion pounds. They will also need a war chest to try to buy a victory at the next general election.

Nightpusher, I'm curious as to why you went to the trouble of posting such a long statement to inform us that you have no interest in anything Spights posts on this board. If that is your position then the simple remedy available to you and anyone else similarly minded is to block and you will no longer be troubled by anything from that source. I can only speak for myself but I find her posts extremely useful and very informative and I know much of the content is available from other sources but nevertheless its a very convenient source of pertinent information relating to BP and I'm very grateful to Spights for devoting so much if her time making these posts with no personal gain and with good intent.

Weather patterns have become unpredictable in recent years. Up till not we've had the mildest November but overnight in Norfolk we had heavy frost so it's log burner plus central heating this morning. Oil price is down slightly due to oversupply currently fuelled also by recession fears but still very profitable for bp.
