Incidentally Colour I spoke with an engineer working nearby last week. Apparently he reckons some Smets 2 meters are having issues similar to Smets1
On the whole the issue seems more the software as opposed to comms. He said the various suppliers have different softwares and need to standardise. I called my supplier and asked when they could read my meter as the other supplier did and was told at least 6 months probably more. That does suggest to me it is a case of getting all the suppliers to spend money updating their software.

Your timescales of India moving things on to benefit of CC of two years I believe is a little wishful. If JC persists in pushing that notion, or his of "in the very near future" he is either daft, incompetent or does not have the common sense to accept what's clear to most. That's what comes from putting most of your eggs in one basket. You can be sure the Covid excuse will be used at some point, the reality is that even with Covid being thrown into the mix he should have seen the risk far sooner dealing with India.

Sorry Tony did you view the BBC piece?it's still available on the BBC news website. These people don't have wood and are using cow dung for funeral pyres. They have little oxygen or medical support.
When a mate of mine returned from India a while back and said how bad it was ,I'm not sure I believed him, that piece opened my eyes though. Utter Pradesh ( wasn't that one of the big contract areas?) looks like rural villages with people scraping a living. The piece with the locals playing cricket in sight of the Taj Mahal ,one of the biggest tourist attractions.
This is far bigger than Modi. Before anything they will or should be spending on hospitals and medical support, something the Indian political class will now no doubt use as a vote catcher. My fear now is Smart will be pushed down the line almost with certainty.
Before you question my negativity I'm just giving an opinion,still holding as I've said before. Sometimes you have to take a reality check and see what's looking you in the face. Consider a vote winning strategy if you were a politician..... If you look at the main political driver here in the UK it's generally the NHS, would you not agree? Boris is currently riding high on the back of the Covid jab success. No doubt the Indian politicians are watching and will be taking note. Smart meters or Hospitals? .......

Hi Colour. Yes that and the drop in the share price,very strange. Usually they would be shouting from the rooftops. Unless they know something we don't.

Having just watched it again it does make me wonder why CC are throwing everything at India. Sometimes you have to smell the coffee, park the error and concentrate on more stable/ethical places.

Picked up on a program around India and Covid on BBC news this morning. Tragic state of the country and the way it is supporting it's people. One part looked at the outlying villages and the fact they do not seem to be accurately reporting the deaths. Judging by the pictures they have more to worry about than smart, looking at what little some of these people have I'm not sure they want or would even benefit from smart grid, some didn't have enough fuel for funeral pyres let alone the money for electricity. Makes me wonder if any of my investment here is ethical based upon the manner the Indian government treats its people.

Hi Seen It. I agree but back if timed right are ok, not like Wilson's most recent attempt! Special div's will reduce the share price by the equivalent or thereabouts. Be interesting to see the future plans AB has for growth. Selling business units is the easy things as is cutting staff and buildings.
Hopefully she has a plan to push the share price on. Always thought Aviva were undervalued and just need the right person with some ball5 to manage the current board rather than appease them. Think AB may have their measure. AIMO.

Special dividend like any dividend will usually reduce the share price,at least short term, you are effectively taking cash out of the company. The important thing is the plan to increase profitability after the dividend to cover that cash paid out.
Share buybacks rely on timing, the last one by Wilson was a disaster. AIMO.
