Morning Tiddlor, you posted this - " I myself would be happy with getting a new latch for my boot as the bloody thing is draining my battery" and it reminded me of the fiasco I went through to mend the boot light that I saw was not working
one day, I checked the bulb and it was not that, I repeatedly opened and closed the boot no difference, in the old days there
was a spring-loaded pin that would as a car door was opened apply a return path to the internal roof light and simple to fix if it got corroded with time, but my boot light has no such device to turn it on, how or what turned the boot light on I asked myself, out with the car wiring diagram and my heart sank, how convoluted this was, let's start with the basics, in the old days to open the boot you pushed a boot release button that had a key slot for the key, it was simple, if the button was locked it could not be depressed and the mechanical linkage (coat hanger wire) would release the catch and the boot would open, not today though, today, to open the boot one depresses the boot release button, (which is only inches away from the lock) this operates a micro switch to send a signal all the way to the car body computer which in turn if it is energized via the main ECU by the car being unlocked will send a return signal to the boot lock to operate an electric motor to drive a pin to trip and release the lock, in the lock releaseing it operates two more micro switches, one sends a signal to the dasboard door/boot open warning lamp, the other sends a signal to the car body computer that the boot is now open and for it to apply a live feed to the boot lamp to iluminate it.... so I had to replace my boot lock because one of the micro switches had failed and was not telling the body computer that it should turn the boot lamp on....Arrghhh! why make things so complicated....rant over.
