Moonman - a reasoned argument, but I disagree. I work in what is regarded as a highly paid field. I’m lucky enough to have worked myself up the ladder and am comfortable. Pretty much everyone beneath the age of 35 is not. They have massive mortgages or rents, colossal student debts (at frankly absurd interest rates) and have grown up in a debt fuelled world which to them is the norm (as is putting a nice car on PCP). For the most part these people have f**k left at the end of every month - and I am pretty sure this is millions and millions of people - and the s**t hasn’t even hit the fan yet. The reason this hasn’t hit home yet is the amount these folks saved during covid. That will be burned over the next 6 months. That’s when, unfortunately, the chickens are going to come home to roost.

I don't think you've missed something Wayzgoose. It hasn't happened yet - ie the massive wave of financial devastation/huge lack of confidence that is going to whack the country round its chops in the coming months (and with very little left in the tank to help us get through it). Genuinely don't like to be negative, and I am watching this one, but I think this is for the very brave at the moment.

His initial posts were reasonable enough. I suspect, and hope, he’s normally a reasonable fellow who just found himself dragged into an unhealthy habit. None of us know who he is, none of us need to know, and hopefully he’ll just open another account and start afresh. These boards can turn otherwise normal folk a bit mad I think. I know I quite regularly have to hold myself back, and I’m usually pretty laid back. Would be nice to park all this nonsense now and use this board for what it should be - a forum to politely and respectfully share information and put across different points of view.

Disappointed with this. All a little bit steady as she goes. This was my rocket ship, and now seems to have turned into a Ford Mondeo. Will hold on, but not great results to me and some clear threats on the horizon. Still, better than Smith & Nephew. Not the best of days.

Well, pleased you got out when you did Canetoad. For anyone thinking this is a good time to get in, I would think very long and hard about that. The legal services market is getting tougher, staff costs going through the roof, pressure on fees from clients and interest rates only going one way. Most firms have got fat with profits over the past 2 years that will enable them to weather a storm. This appears to be the reverse. I wouldn't touch this with Putin's *****.

Interesting Deadly 4U. Haven’t heard about this and am oblivious to accounting rules. Anybody have any feel as to how much of a **** LGEN and Aviva are taking with current modelling? I’d considered these fairly stable, but I’m risk averse and these sorts of potential shenanigans give me the willies. Any examples of extreme behaviour welcomed!

I’ve had a small holding here for years and had/have pretty much written it off. It I’d invested in almost anything else over the same period I’d have made a killing. Anyway, hadn’t looked in on this board for a long time but see mention of David Archer having left. He was always painted as the goose that laid the golden eggs (though not for Sav unfortunately). What’s happened to him?

As is probably evident from some of my previous posts, I'm not enthusiastic about Knights, but this is probably a good move, and at least indicates a strategy to focus on more profitable areas....

Forensic - I would not compare Knights to Gateley. Gateley is a quality outfit with high quality lawyers and good quality clients willing to pay a premium for quality advice. Knights is a collection of bolt ons (most of which had a couple of decent rainmakers near retirement who just wanted out) so the model carries with it an inherent lack of consistency of quality and little coherent legacy. Gateleys clients are likely to be loyal and stick with them despite inflationary increases. In my humble opinion Knights will be much more exposed to pricing pressures and competition from the vast number of middle market law firms who are going to be competing for an increasing small piece of cake.

@Denis - you’re right. History speaks. Unfortunately BTC doesn’t have a very long history - and it’s p*ss easy to manipulate what history it has to say whatever anyone wants. All the charts, all the analysts “predictions” - all absolute b@llocks - created simply to try desperately to suck in more money to try to save their own skin. Honestly, it makes me sick.
