Taken a nibble here this morning at £58.70. I'm not keen on the debt they've taken on - debt kills a lot of law firms - but I have first hand experience of Gateley and they are generally a quality outfit.

Schools closed, tens of thousands of people being forced to evacuate their homes requiring overnight stays elsewhere - as well as potential breaches of various laws. Plenty of scope for claims. Isn’t this a subsidiary though? Can parent companies be attacked for act/omission of subsidiaries (ie different legal entities) under California law? If not, any damage should be ring fenced.

Far more than 40,000 people will die as a result of Trump's actions - and they will probably die worse deaths - from hunger and disease from lack of food, medicine and basic sanitation. His actions are pushing millions upon millions into poverty.

Gawd knows Fleccy. Why the Markets would listen to anything Trump says about this now is beyond me. The fact remains, he's thrown a bomb into a barrel and has let the fish rot long enough that it wouldn't matter even if the US withdrew today. The mess will take a very long time to clear up - and BP will reap the benefits.

I have made a ton here and in Shell since Trump bent over for Bebe and took it firmly up the a&se. I had been feeling slightly bitter sweet about that (no pleasure earning profit in war and people suffering) - but I’m taking solace in this whole thing being the death knell for Trump and his sycophantic administration.

Difficult to play chicken with folks who are prepared to die for their cause. Trump is fking this right up.

Why are so many on here focussed on selling? Sustained high oil prices give BP all the ammunition it needs to whip the company into shape quicker than it could have hoped to and rid itself of the unprofitable legacy of its exploits over previous recent years. We will have a considerably strengthened company as a result of all of this - and renewed focus on the importance and value of fossil fuels. This is our chance to catch up on competitors and is surely a long term hold for any investor.
