Re timing - the company stated last week that news is imminent. There has been some discussion on the nature of imminence, I'm going with the Cambridge Dictionary: "Coming or likely to happen very soon."

Synairgen have developed a formulation of Beta Interferon which is pH neutral, which is important as it avoids irritating the airways. It comes in a liquid form and is currently known as SNG001. Beta Interferon has been used successfully as an injection for MS, but it has some side effects. The key advantage of nebulised form is that it can be delivered straight to the lungs (where it needs to go) and that means we can use a much lower dose - which should mean less unwanted side effects.
It's delivered via an electronic nebuliser, which can give patients a precise dose and all they have to do is breathe in.
I don't know about the cost of nebulisers but they are not particularly complex devices, I would expect them to be a small proportion of the overall cost, especially at scale.

To clarify - beta interferon is expected to function as a broad spectrum antiviral, which would mean it could handle mutations in COVID 19 as well as lots of other viruses. But actually COVID 19 has a relatively low mutation rate, at least so far. Probably because it's already a 'successful' virus - there isn't much evolutionary 'selection pressure'.

This morning I will be mostly looking at this Bradykinin Hypothesis, since it's quite interesting, especially for severe cases.

One takeaway is that it certainly wouldn't hurt, and may well help, to get more vitamin D, since that's a common problem anyway.

Of course I think we'd all prefer to prevent anyone getting to the severe stage, and I think Interferon Beta remains the most promising candidate.

If there's no cytokine storm, then I guess interferon can't contribute to one.
