The small company tries to work out what molecules might make the ill people better.
But the small company hasn't got enough money to do proper big tests so they make a special agreement with a bigger company called a 'pharma'. That agreement says they will work together to test the drug, and the small company gets sone money, and if the tests go well and the big company wants to sell the drug they also get a share of the money.
It is honestly bizarre how many people seem to think that failure to progress beyond a P2 trial is some kind of reflection on the company's ability,rather than the standard outcome of the majority of P2 trials.

AZ doing it for them or in this case US Gov developing it for them is what you say to reassure investors that a small company has the resources and help to be able to deliver a major program. It does not indicate laziness and complacency.

Don't hold me to it but IIRC Holgate's comment was actually sparked by a poster here asking about the possibility of prophylactic use. Obviously SNG001 will not help with long term protection if the patient does not get covid, but if you have an outbreak in a confined environment like a care home, you might want to boost everyone's immune system for a few weeks.

I think he's a good bloke. He's just trying to explain things calmly to as many people as possible. I think a lot of people find him reassuring / trustworthy in a scary time. I don't think he's anti-Synairgen at all, he's definitely been very pro-vaccine and questioned the cost of treatments before, but as far as I know he's just looking things up on the internet, being cautious about sources, focusing on the science - same as most of us :)
