I had one who did a lot of that 'I'm just asking the question' nonsense and he built a bit of a following, but when pushed he did eventually admit he believed it was all a plot to bring about communism. If you demand they actually tell you what they think is happening rather than the much more acceptable 'questioning the narrative', you normally get a torrent of such ridiculous bull**** that most people reading have a lightbulb moment.

I'm not sure if the double masking is about adding a barrier, or just wearing a more socially acceptable fabric covering over your actually effective mask. I got some FFP2 masks with valves that let you breathe out and stop the mask getting clammy, steaming up etc, but they look a bit out of the ordinary which makes people uncomfortable.

@Newbie I think you're right in that vaccines don't completely fix the problem. People who are vaccinated can still get ill, can still spread it, can still be asymptomatic carriers etc etc. However, the vaccines are highly effective at reducing those risks.

We can't rule out that vaccination has an impact in making variants more dominant. We can't rule out that variants have emerged more rapidly in patients given convalescent plasma, though there are far more immunocompromised patients out there where the virus has free reign. What we can say is that these mutations have arisen independently and repeatedly around the world. The virus will literally take the path of least resistance. If you're unvaccinated, unfortunately that's you.

Comparisons with polio vaccines really don't hold water. Vaccination science has been completely transformed in the last 50 years (plus probably another 10 years of normal advances within the last year). We know an awful lot more than we did and can avoid lots of mistakes that we already know about. There is always risk from 'unknown unknowns', but we know far more than we did. That's the beauty of science. Individuals get things wrong constantly but the collective body of work (mostly) becomes less wrong over time.

Individuals have to make their own decisions on vaccines, my concern is that those decisions should be made on the best information we have rather than youtube conspiracy videos that people make for money and attention.

There's a business forum I'm a member of which was quite annoyed at me for 'scaremongering' when this first started.
One of them posted one of those motivational videos of nurses dancing in the first lockdown as evidence that things weren't really that bad. People will go through all sorts of mental gymnastics to preserve their worldview, because realising/admitting your fundamental understanding of the world is wrong is extremely difficult to do. In the future, I imagine most people won't admit they ever held covid denialist views. The evidence will probably be online forever, but it does look like no-one cares, our celebrated idiots will just wash their hands (for once) and move on.

That other forum banned discussion of covid because of the conspiracy theorists. It's interesting that some of them who made the most bat**** insane arguments (such as this idea that far-right governments are imposing communism via lockdown/masks) have settled back down to arguing about money.

Given the right circumstances, just about anyone can be brainwashed like this, none of us are immune.
Intelligence is not a defence either, because this stuff connects with animal instincts rather than rational thought.

I believe this plan anticipates effective treatments as well as vaccines and that herd immunity via vaccination is no longer considered realistic.

You seem to be putting far too much weight on a throwaway comment. I can appreciate that investing can be stressful.
Please remember, you are responsible for your decisions and actions. You don't get to demand others do the research for you or blame them when things go wrong. If you're not comfortable with what you've invested in, then it isn't for you. No shame in that, move on and get your life back. Either way, no-one is going to talk to you if you treat everyone like ****.

Google says our Hull patient was admitted on the 11th, dosed on the 12th and it was reported on the 13th.
Somebody here also had info that she was discharged a few days later but I didn't look into it. Likely true anyway.

**NHS Blood and Transplant restarted donations of blood plasma on 20 January. They could be used to see whether particular groups of patients, such as those with low antibody levels, could benefit.
International trials are also testing if plasma helps people when it's used much earlier in the disease, before people get to hospital.
I guess that might explain it if they're still advertising for donations for use in covid.
