Perhaps we could apply that approach to VM02 :)
Crossed in the ether!
Yes Jake, it's not just the power. I used to have ADT with BT Redcare. It was expensive and useless. Had a landline then. If someone cut the landline, ADT would know and call me initially (not the police) to warn me of a potential intrusion. If I didn't answer, they'd call the police. Same applies these days with central stations, if you have landline. If someone cuts that connection outside your house, it's over. The villains are in and out before you can say Jack Robinson. Don't know about the situation with BT's unbreakable hybrid broadband service (a combination of wifi and landline). As a retired footballer what I've got is good enough for me :)
keep your knickers on Poker, thought Poker players were meant to be cool dudes :)
Love you J&E, in a manly kinda way. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s VMO2 who are getting together with Verisure, not BT. BT used to offer a product called Redcare that told a service like ADT if someone had cut your landline.
Who are you kidding, Poker. About VeriSure, I mean. I have four cameras protecting my place. I paid £32 for each of them, and they warn me and show me on my iPhone (wherever I am in the UK and abroad) when anyone approaches my house. No fee. No ongoing contract. Just the cameras. They work on wi-fi. Who needs VeriSure, their expensive systems, and their patronising TV ads. Are you working for them Poker?
Great news from the government on the business front, for BT and for its customers. The new PM clearly stated "we need to build broadband faster." That doesn't mean the risible 20 Megs just 'guaranteed' by VM02. It means fibre all the way; not part cable, part CityFibre, part kitchen sink, and part empty promises. It means speeds that dwarf VM02's pathetic baseline, less government regulation in terms of Ofcom, and less VAT. VM02 is a disjointed JV. They recently announced funding for 8m fibred premises. BT is already way past that and VM02 haven't even started in earnest! Hangers on like TalkTalk are feeling the pinch. And so they should be. Never mind the media bilge. Step forward BT. The Openreach network is a true network from one company, not a patchwork of networks forged in Mordor.
Yes, they must be desperate Poker. 1. VM02 can't offer these speeds nationally. 2. 20 Megs is mere bagatelle these days. I would like to take this opportunity of rescinding* my post advising Altice and DT to get on with their takeover bid for BT. Please wait until after 15 September, when I've had an opportunity to reinvest my dividends.
*For our valued CWU contributor, this means to cancel or take back.
Just wish Altice and DT would get on with it. Noticed Boris said the same thing yesterday. Must be some good news soon :)
Truss says: “We need to build broadband faster.”
Well spotted Larry. Sir Charles Dunstone wants £3bn for TalkTalk, eh. I don't think so. Why would VM02 buy a failing company for that kind of dosh and expect to grab all their customers. Not feasible. VM02 don't currently have the network footprint. TalkTalk is going down the drain. Most likely outcome is that BT will pick up most of their remaining customers. While I feel sorry for any inconvenience TalkTalk customers will experience, that company has been having a free ride on the back of BT for far too long. The tide is turning in favour of BT, at last.
BeeTee, you are a credit to the CWU. The more you and your brothers come here denigrating (see dictionary) the BT group, the more desperate your strike action sounds. We know you're on your last legs. You're losing support fast. Give up now, before you miss out on even more pay. Re the incontinence pants you refer to and my buttocks, I must admit that last night I went for a very hot (I was informed by the helpful staff that Phal was the hottest) lamb curry, not far from my stylish and rather expensive town house close to Tower Bridge, in the capital of this great country. I didn't really want a curry, but felt I needed to experience what it was like to be a fat, bald, chip-on-the-shoulder working class goon like you. There was no problem at first. In fact, the food down quite pleasantly, thanks to the fact that I'd brought a small flask of 30-y-o Scotch with me (they allow customers to bring their own drinks in this establishment). However, it all came out in the wash this morning. Felt as though the world had fallen out of my bottom, never mind my buttocks. Which is precisely why I will do my utmost in future to stay away from ethnic grub and people like you who adore it. Shabbat Shalom.
Fleccy. Will never called you Fleecy again. Promise :)

Bottom, are you completely bonkers? BT shareholders support the company by owning shares in the company. So they do own the company. If all BT shareholders sold their shares, the company would be worth nothing and would go into liquidation. Suggest you stop bottom feeding and start feeding through your mouth like normal people. We might then get some sense from you. BTW, no need for the capital letters make your pathetic non-points. It just interrupts the flow of what you are attempting to say.
Morning Oracle. You are using this board as a platform to spout political clap-trap. Worse still, you are encouraging many of us to argue the toss with you - me included. Fact is, this board is supposed to be about BT. So I for one will not continue to afford you the oxygen to continue your pompous, holier-than-thou blathering. Have you considered changing your nickname from Oracle to Orifice? Respect for my fellow posters prevents me from detailing which one your opinions emanate from. In relation to BT, it would seem that the CWU strike is foundering. Which is really great news for most people, including loyal team members and those in EE who refused to walk out in the first place!
To avoid any confusion, I would add that doesn’t mean going on strike. If you’re unhappy with your terms of employment, find another job or start up your own business.
The trick of the poor is to always moan about their condition, instead of doing something about it!
Amers FYI, BT has been shackled by various governments since privatisation, mostly recently by Theresa May and Ofcom. Every conceivable barrier has been put in their way, to allow others to use the network for peanuts. The reckoning day is coming for those copetitors. Mark my words.
Hey Smash, if true, I doubt that your contribution was purely altruistic (see dictionary for meaning). As I understand it, Openreach engineers get a bonus for suggesting improvements that save money and or improve efficiency. Union leaders are as bad as politicians - only interested in lining their own pockets and publicising themselves. Wake up Smash. Log onto my new website: www.http://unionsarefinished.com and join Handymandy's Boys. All subs will go towards discounts on Happy Endings in one of my massage parlours dotted around the country. Far better value than union dues. We took over 120 defunct local exchanges only last week. When the Openreach fibre rollout is complete and there are only 30 mega exchanges around the country there will be no need for 30,000 engineers (5,000 at most) as the network will be mostly self-healing. Sayonora, Bilbo Muggins and the CWU.
