Many a true word spoken in jest :)
Yes, yes, yes My Lovely :)
That's it Erik. Perfectly put, starting with TalkTalk's 4m customers.
Very true James. I prefer Viagra. At least you get something out of it :)
:)
Let's hope so Carrington. Been torture for the past few years.
Great post fleccy
That's more like it Larry. Straight to the point. And bloody good news too. Have a word in in fleccy's shell-like. If he does the same we could make the perfect threesome!
BeeTee. I'm absolutely delighted that my posts have prompted you to say something nice about BT for a change. With a little more encouragement from me, I think you will refuse to strike again if there's another one. From then, it's only a small step to tear up your worthless CWU card and buy your partner a present with the money you'll be saving. God bless you BeeTee. And God bless BT too. Have a great weekend. Your friend Handymandy.
Wise words Mansinor. You have a cool head. Wish I could be so calm and express myself so clearly in the face of a constant CWU onslaught on this board. I don't want any BT team members to be made redundant. But we all have to face facts. In 10 years, we really will be in a brave new world, with robots doing most of the work; including driving. Trains and boats and planes (a song there, I think). Everything will be automated. We will all have chips in our brains, instead of on our shoulders like striking BT engineers. GLA :)
NDN, may I remind you that we're now in 2022. Thank you for your service, as they say in America. As I pointed out in a previous post, the vast majority of engineers in the past were not fond of work - unless householders like me gave them a sweetener. I experienced this kind of greed myself, on several occasions (the copper network, as you know, is prone to faults (caused by third columnists, the weather, thieves, you name it). We are living in a different world now. When the fibre rollout is complete, there will be no need for so many engineers (numbers are set to be halved). Which is why I would urge them to make hay while the sun shines. For their part, the CWU should be partnering with BT right now, to re-skill the engineers who will be let go; although many of them will simply not be replaced when they reach retirement age.
yes, Poker. It will come to pass.
Mather, thanks for the questions. What I can tell you is that in the network will be largely self -healing in 10 years. There will only be 30 mega exchanges and 17,500 fewer engineers. Most altnets will be history, swallowed up by BT as supplier of first resort. And the Ofcom and CWU strangleholds on the company will be no more. All of this will dramatically pump up BT profits and dividends and the BT pension plan will be fully funded. And that's without counting new revenues from AI et al! Great times to look forward to. As for salary bands, I would refer you to your union pals. Hope this helps.
Abject Performer. Know this, comrade. I will be here as long as you and your CWU pals are here. I will not chastise you or them too strongly, because I know you can hand out the verbal but can't take it. However, I won't put up with you bad mouthing the company, loyal team members or shareholders like myself just because you don't agree with a £1,500 pay rise being foisted on you. Sorry if my posts upset you. But they are written for the sole purpose of protecting my investments. Hope you understand. When's the next strike scheduled for?
Deadly, in this country you have the freedom to be anything you want. You are neutral. Fine by me. I am not neutral. Might I be so bold as to suggest that, for someone who is neutral, your nickname sounds rather threatening. Deadly4U. Hmmm. Maybe you're just another CWU infiltrator, looking to undermine BT. I honestly don't know. What I do know is that the CWU strike is on its last legs. It makes me really happy to know that BT team members are voting with their feet - to end this stupidity sooner rather than later, by not answering the union's calls to strike in increasing numbers. Main problem now appears to be their officers, who seem to be more interested in making ridiculous arguments about soup kitchens and the salaries of bosses than protecting the jobs of their members. Watch out you officers, when the herd moves it moves. Let's hope the herd chucks you lot out sooner rather than later as well.
Ah yes, I remember now Unlucky. I said the CWU was an anathema in modern society. To me, their views and their politics are utterly repellent. Having said that, you of course are free to espouse your own views. Just don't try and prevent me having mine. We live in a democracy. As I've said before on here, God help us if the next government turns out to be Labour.
Well said Manisor. Spot on. They care not a fig about their lower paid colleagues who do not have so many opportunities to 'catch up' by working overtime. Shame on them.

No Unlucky, I do not remember what I said in the context of the CWU. You can look back at historic posts if you really want to find out. However, I will tell you what I think of the CWU: The union is stuck in the past. Past thinking. Past actions. They are past it in every way. The CWU, like all unions (and their members) needs to look to the future, instead of continually looking out of the rear view mirror. Their greed and politics of envy messages sound more hollow by the day. A point was just made by another poster that BT engineers, the highest paid among the workforce, can easily make up for their lost wages during strike days through overtime. The call handlers can't do that. So much for solidarity with their lower paid colleagues. Shameful.
P.S. My understanding is that fewer than 9,000 comrades took strike action on 24 October. When are the next strike dates? Not announced yet, eh. You lot must be getting increasingly desperate. Nothing wrong with a little paranoia. It gives you the edge, while too much drives you over it - like your paranoia about bosses and what they earn. Happy days, mother.
