Do you see insurers as pretty much the best for reasonable risk high divi? What other high divi / some cap gain stocks do you like.

Im finding it easy to locate uk stocks that are lowish risk high cap gain.. rolls royce ggp for example, but hard to find low risk high divi ones.

Ideal is 4pc capital appreciation to offset inflation, and reliable increasing divi above 4 or 5pc. !!!!!

Sounds as tough your least favourite is aviva due risk? I would hope the dlg thing would over time help.

If I part sold insurers Id be tempted to go into a high income fund, I guess they would give 4pc but with huge diversification.

Why are you expecting ggp to rise when dual listedon asx? why after the 20 to 1 shoulnt the capital amount be the same. surely there are enough analysts in uk allready to have made a good valuation? And why is there a 30pc discrepancy in similar companies (see previous posts) Is it really possible after asx ggp price could be 20sish in old money.

Hard to add this afternoon as there are some risky shares which move 25pc in a day, crism capx oxfordbio. I just hope this (ggp) really is one the uk analysts havent stayed on top of.

Apart from ggp i would really like some guilts ao balance portfolio. I understand the capital gain v income via low coupon, and understand short dated are no risk hld to completion. I dont understand the advantages of medium and long uk guilts versus buyng a bond. Id really appreciate a quick overview please!!

On ggp, huge recent increase, recently, many times a share rises in 3 waves, so this retrace is expected, its a shame u cant tell when it turns back up,I added at 12.7.

What does the comparison of now and few years ago when ggp 43,

A year and a half ago when I bought rr there was talk of eventually a small divi. It looks to me as rr can easily use its profits to generate more, however, has anyone heard anything about a small divi .. I havent found anything. Thx.

Drift..... direct line goes xdiv 3 april .. The direct line price would be expected to drop by the amount they have given you as dividend. so probably no difference in holding till after 3 april and receiving divi. is this right???

If sell and buy aviva shares ii dealing cost is £3.50. stamp duty is 0.5pc thats 1.41p on present price.

By selling you have the choice of investing in aviva.. or another vod l and g etc.

I am really interested in views better to sell or hold.

Direct line. If aviva price trends up why isn't direct line price also. Is there a case for selling now and locking into aviva 7pc div.

Please can you explain the advantage of buying longer term guilts?

I thought direct line price would rise over last few months and rise further if aviva price rose.

It seemed a better way to get into aviva than buying directly, with aviva higher div and rising price im not sure now.

drift I wish I understood guilts more, the difference between 12 5 10 if interest rates trend down. Seems though a guilt will give 4.5% some as capital gain, but directline/aviva 7pc with little risk if hold long term
