I haven't been following this very closely as my holding is pretty modest, but what I do have I bought because I thought it was a quality business with great potential once the Covid panic was over. However, despite that I don't 'do' charts, it looks as if it's going to get pushed sub-1000 now, so I think I'll bide my time just a little longer!

So in light of all the above (with which, incidentally, I totally agree), are we all topping up at 1038ish, or are we waiting for a further decline?

Just swung-by to see what's going on. It's been a while, but I see there is a flicker of hope - and that our resident troll has neither matured, nor gotten bored. Gotta give him props for persistence. Begs the question, how much money does one have to lose to get that much butt hurt?...

Has Mr Hunt finally run out of 'finger energy'?

It may be that they've selected a 'senior citizen', with a view that should a merger or acquisition again be on the table (BAE/Melrose...) he'll be more compliant rather than letting his ego resist a major structural change. Who knows?...

FLRAA is huge, and this being the case, together with a new defence consideration in the European sector, two strong products in contention and political, strategic and financial considerations in the U.S. - my guess is that both parties will be awarded a contract, even if not divided equally.

And aside from the economics and logistics, it makes even less sense to get into bed with effectively both the French and Chinese governments, especially on a project with such strategic importance.. I have a feeling these policy makers are not reading the room..

I said mangled, because whichever ponytail was responsible has cobbled together a word of Norse origin with one of Greek. Had I been given the brief (and the fee) in five minutes I would have suggested Hygleon - which with Hygieia being the Greek goddess of health and cleanliness would coherently carry the required message without sounding like it was dreamt up by a five year-old.

Yesterday they were showing an equal number of shares in GSK and Haleon. Last night the GSK were showing as zero shares (and value), but today they are back with 20% fewer, but value maintained.

Haleon (pronounced "Hay-Lee-On") is inspired by the merging of the words 'Hale', which is an old English word that means 'in good health' and Leon, which is associated with the word 'strength'

Let's hope the management can quickly improve on this mangled, uninspired and no doubt expensive piece of corporate nonsense.

Agree with your points, and were it not that I already have a considerable position in RR, I too would be taking greater advantage of the recent depressed sp. Over the dozen or so years of my holding, the fluctuations in the price have been greatly mitigated by the generous dividend - and have encouraged me to ride-out the many of the dips. I fundamentally believe that diversification is necessary for a sound investment strategy, and so for the last couple of years I've used spare cash to top-up on other holdings where the benefits appear to be more obvious, whether by tangible growth or attractive distributions. I've also had to 'rescue' a few holdings by improving my average. I've mostly finished finessing my portfolio for the short-term, so I will be keeping a closer eye on RR on the run-up to results and FLRAA announcement, both of which I believe will be significant and positive. As you may have guessed, I'm also a LTH of BAE Systems and very happy with my stake, despite the good fortune being at the expense of suffering. Defence is unfortunately a necessary 'evil'. The Tempest is looking excellent!
Regarding the usual daily onslaught of ill-conceived, ill-constructed, ill-spelt and delusional English mangling tripe we are subjected to on this and other LSE message boards - treat it as what it is - ignorant noise. It's fine for breaking the monotony of slow days and leaves no hangover ;-)

I can't claim to be a close follower of the minutiae of politics, but I don't think very many in the present government have expressed a strong opinion toward SMRs, one way or the other. However, it's apparent to anyone in government (or opposition) that we need energy security and that this was the case long before the war in Ukraine commenced and greatly exacerbated the situation. There is no major societal resistance to nuclear power in GB, but the complexities of involving foreign investment and logistical issues related to traditional large-scale projects do create problems and extend the time from proposal to completion, if they do finally become approved. Therefore, it seems to me that any government in the coming years would find broadly popular support for enabling projects which utilised British engineering, experience and labour, and spread both the impact and benefits to a greater number of communities around the island.
I'm a long-term holder of RR, having held a greater or lesser stake over a period of more than a dozen years. During that time, the company's reliance primarily on the larger turbofan business has shown to be problematic. I'm encouraged that for the future a greater percentage of income will be derived from defence contacts and power generation in general. For this reason I expect to be increasing my stake as and when the company demonstrates positive momentum, hopefully over the next twelve months.

The 'smart money' seems to think that it will not be a big name who is ultimately successful. There are several reasons offered to support this outcome. First, the public have become weary since the Brexit vote of seeing the same talking heads spouting the same drivel. The rank and file believe that for a chance of success at the next General Election, a relatively fresh face is necessary, with hopefully some now ideas and policies to go with it. Then there is a substantial number of voters who feel that BoJo was stabbed in the back by the cabinet, and they should not be rewarded for duplicity. There is a further faction who believe Johnson's policies were too beholden to the Green Agenda (as championed by his un-elected wife) and that more attention and regard should be given to the cost of expensive green projects, when the majority of voters are feeling the financial pinch. Personally, I think these views have merit, but the picture won't be clear until all candidates have declared. Even then, the outcome often defies logic as demonstrated repeatedly in the past. However, I'd be surprised if Sunak eventually prevails.
