If you were around during our admission to the ASX (sorry - can't remember offhand if you were or not) you will recall the shenanigans with respect to Macquarie and their cohort. This was an early lesson/warning that our s/p is subject to 'massage'. When, as is the evidence since the MRE update, there is a clear disconnect, as informed shareholders we we should be grateful for a buying opportunity or if adding doesn't suit personal circumstances, rest assured that one's investment is sound. Becoming emotional isn't really necessary or productive.

Just dumped all the accrued divs in my ISA into GGP. Averaging-up always sticks in my craw, but it feels like a sensible thing to do....

MartinN - Well T212 are currently paying 3.8% on cash balances on both trading and ISA accounts. My ISAs happen to be with II, who as you rightly point out pay four fifths of FA on cash balances.

Fastfood - Agreed! I'd certainly like to see them in a position to increase dividends, to keep the shares yield on a par with bank deposit levels, which are slowly but surely rising. With the prospect of political and financial instability ahead, we're going to need a a bit more incentive to carry the risk, despite staples being fairly resistant to inflation.

I hardly ever shop at Tesco (except for Momentum SUL) but I collect meds from their pharmacy. The place is always busy. I also live quite close to a Morrisons and that has very noticeably gone down hill. My partner (who is Chinese) doesn't mind it (she never saw it before the septics took over) but refuses to buy any food at ADSA. I'm a LTH of Tesco and whilst I don't like shopping there, I remain pretty confident that it's the best holding for staples retailing, especially considering the success of their 'local' chain and of course Booker.

Hey NImrod! Interesting post and it's good to share perspectives. I'm a bit younger than you, but no spring chicken. I have a stupidly diverse portfolio, but I find it difficult to resist sound companies with good prospects. However, discarding the duds is a different matter. That said, probably 50% of those duds eventually do recover into substantial gains. Metro Bank, Costain and Luceco come to mind. I'm neither desperate nor nerdy enough to work out the real gains vs opportunity cost but I think I've had a good roll of the dice.

So what actually was your motivation to sell out at this level? Too stressful to bother with them, decluttering, or do you think the prospects are dim?

Personally, I'd take seven quid and move on.

Hey Speedy - Yeah, I've got Chards, HGM and Atkinsons apps for quick reference. And I've got my seven grandoiks in mind, so fractional coins with low premiums are mostly what I seek. However I've got a few BV sovs which are George V circulated and one day they look charming, another day they look tatty ;-) I think the high price of an ounce (let alone a ten-pack) makes them less popular with regular magpies.

To be honest, this morning I was going to say that I'd be more than happy for another top-up price to present itself - but I wasn't up for the torrent of handbag bashing I'd certainly receive as a result... I'm with those who currently feel that at something under 700 would be rude to not add. Additionally, I'm increasingly contemplating adding to physical. The bond markets have already reacted to the prospect of Andy Burn'em and several banks are expecting the pound to fall against the dollar, being as overvalued as it is. Then try to find the right coin on the right day at the right price. Stock seems thin for the last few weeks.
