Perhaps the 'legendary' Mike234/Steve/RRInvestor could invest some of his time allotted to RR research by thanking RR Governance for their (delayed) response and following up with the question I raised in the above post? That would be very useful!

The last snippet I read (can't remember where, sorry) reported that the decision had been pushed forward again - Nov/Dec, but I'm not holding my breath...

The detailed response was all very nice, but if their sophisticated hedging policies and procedures were so effective, why did the last set of results include a huge provision?

It's all thanks to me chaps. I opened a deposit account recently, so they've obviously lent my huge fortune at a highly profitable spread. You're all welcome ! ;-)

Actually I opened the account because my local HSBC branch closed and I wanted a local drop-in. They were a friendly bunch, but the very next day the app crashed and I was unable to transfer any funds elsewhere.

It's kind of the point I'm trying to make. It seems peculiar to me, to be making public statements about potentially huge acquisitions, when despite the recently improved cash flow, neither the shareholders, the employees nor the debt seem in a comfortable position with the risk involved. It's not just IAG's BOD who seem to be making strange statements. Both Shell and BP's CEOs have been talking smack recently, to name just a few. Maybe it's long Covid....(j/k)

With rising interest rates, investors (both ii and pi) would like to see a return to dividends, which would support a rising share price, which would make acquisitions a less risk-filled proposition, or am I missing something? Perhaps the debt is fixed at such low rates that it's now easily serviceable from rising cash flow? IDK...

Seems to me that debt reduction would be a bigger priority, but maybe there are some tax advantages to be had?

Going long at £1.70 for volume and selling at 31p would certainly make me sweat. I'd be out buying deos this afternoon..

It's such a huge and long-term investment by the U.S. govt, I'd be very surprised if it's not split between the two contenders. With the longer term focus on China, my best guess would be 60/40 in favour of Bell/RR - but let's not forget there's a huge political component too..

I mentioned when the last results were published, there's something very fishy about those provisions for f/x hedges - they just don't make sense. I worked for a very large commodity company back in the days before the Euro, and all our income in foreign currency was sold for whenever it was likely to be received. If we are reading RR's accounts correctly (and I'm certainly no accountant) they effectively abandoned all their engineering income for a currency gamble. I just don't think it's a credible policy.
