First thing that came to mind, before I'd even browsed the news feeds.

I topped-up BP this morning after a 5% fall on good results. Forgot all about THG in the excitement, with HSBC's banking app going down and wasting an hour of my time.. Didn't age well... :-P

I topped-up at 505 and I'm content. I think the downside is limited, barring a collapse in the OP, which seems unlikely. As a retired softs trader, I often refer back to some advice given to me by one of the old directors at Berisford, where I was a junior at the time. "*****", he said, "Those who constantly try to pick bottoms invariably end-up with **** under their fingernails" It's weathered well over 40-odd years...

As I mentioned yesterday, I called II to get an explanation. They said their s/w was slow in being updated, but they would be pleased to place any trades manually, if you call their customer service.

Same with me - so I phoned them. Their excuse is that their s/w hasn't been updated yet, but if you want to trade they can handle it manually for you....

Seems to me that Ukraine is defending Bakhmut in order to effectively either eliminate The Wagner group mercenaries, or weaken them to the point of insignificance. They are already beginning to challenge Putin with respect to a lack of ammo - and Putin appears to be ignoring them..
Sanctions won't stop Putin immediately, no-one ever expected that, but like a bleeding ulcer the Russian economy will become anaemic and given enough time his ability to finance a war will be diminished. The worst thing would be to allow him to 're-group'. It's a better scenario for the West than dropping a B61-12 on his bunker...

My feeling is that we have to adjust to a new generation of impatient retail investors who are inclined to bail on results day unless the numbers are exceptional. I bought-in because I believe the company is well-run and has a product which is relatively recession proof. Even staples need packaging, day in and day out. I think we will see the s/p recover over the next couple of weeks.

I was distracted yesterday, otherwise I would have bailed too. Oh well...
