ah, pretty much what i guessed... as a born and bred londoner, i was pretty sure it wasn't an obscure ****ney term, where 'bag' used to be quite common (bag of sand = grand), but 'bag' is used differently now due to 'multi-bagger'.

incidentally, i had to google the show 'billions' too. never heard of that, which is embarrassing since i lived in the usa a lot during my adult life, including several years in new york. sounds ok though - i'll track down a stream...

I'm going to top-up, but I'm not expecting a lightning recovery. Rather, I like Metro Bank as a customer and I think in the current climate of branch closures, out-sourced customer service and the clamour to abolish cash, MB is developing something of a USP. The management seems a bit sleepy. They need to be promoting their contrarian style and capitalising on it. If a small Welsh jeweller can afford to advertise (relentlessly) on GB News, then I think MB are missing a trick.

HMS - Interesting what you said about ADV. I too had misgivings, specifically about the geology at Buffalo, but became encouraged by Peterkin's optimism together with other members of that BB who appeared to have far greater experience and insight than I did. I can't say I was traumatised, but I remember that morning very vividly. Up until that point I was just trying to decide which year of F-Type I was going to buy... Furthermore, I had suggested to two of my daughters to take a punt, although fortunately they were only in for a few hundred quid. So in averaging down with Beacon, I've certainly learned to be a bit more restrained.

I'm also slightly surprised that there are not many more of the ADV characters participating on this forum. In the days and weeks after the duster, many of those whom, by all accounts, lost big-time had said they were going to stick around and see what the BOD could come up with. Admittedly, that big red number right at the top of my trading list did irritate me a bit every day when I logged on to my account, but I took the view that there was little more to lose by seeing it through to the bitter end. Perhaps those who lost 'life-changing' sums just wanted to forget..?

The clue is in the name - 'forum'.

It's obvious by reading contributions on any given company, that participants range from the 'intellectually challenged' to the 'clever and highly educated', with all stops in between. But the value is manifold. Sometimes the simple observations have more practical use than the complicated analyses. Some people are prepared to trawl news feeds to highlight information which might otherwise be missed by casual investors. Of course, the crass (yet futile) attempts to promote or de-ramp any given stock can become irritating, as does the incessant mangling of the English language, but overall, these fora provide a useful barometer for the busy and the lazy. My style of investing is that I have stakes in quite a large number of companies. I'll leave all y'all to work out in which camp I belong... ;-)

Wyndrum - 'Never was with beacon?'

Advance Energy performed an RTO with Beacon, so despite dilution, existing holders automatically had a stake in the new venture. Prospects looking pretty good...

As Antropica has suggested, this is very low-hanging fruit for a takeover. A prestigious company in a sector virtually guaranteed to grow, let down by poor management. That being the case, I will be buying the dip very shortly, I think...

Tend to agree with you, MG. Further, a winter less mild than last year coupled with potential production problems in Russia due to inadequate maintenance on the infrastructure, would certainly add pressure to a firming OP.

you echo my thoughts - i topped up a little today too! expanding our footprint in the usa, especially in high-end aerospace has to make sense. whether the price paid was reasonable, i have no idea, but where defence spending is concerned, there generally seem to be moats for the supplier.*

* except for bab****, perhaps... :-)
