It's cant be dismissed as idle gossip or market whispers when Bloomberg are reporting on it .

The SP has risen 25% since yesterday morning following media speculation but no RNS has been released. This is currently the subject of SIP ( secondary information provider) which includes Reuters and Bloomberg both reporting a possible Merger or Investment or sale. Once it is released by a SIP a company usually releases a confirm or deny RNS to update the market. Once a major SIP is reporting it - it is considered reportable and respond-able. l why no update ? who did that £1m sell belong to?

it's too early to say if there is a bidder. The company has not made an announcement and that suggests there is 1 No bidder, 2 it is very informal and at an early stage. But, having said that, these are fabulous assets and suited to the big players. If we have a suitor it is usually close to home. surely they have to issue an RNS now...

In truth , we don't know,it could be the news hounds from yesterday kicking in. I think you were spot on to give yourself some profit. if it rises you are still up more. and if it falls you have your cushion ticked away…..well played.

Would you not lock in some profit at £1. Take 33% out and wait a week .

That happens all the time - I never get hung up on it. There may be a lot more gas in Tanzania than originally thought . It could 2X 3X 4X original estimated according to a news report there . I can get you the link later if you like . We could be selling our 20% to the Singaporean Government . Makes sense for all to do that deal - they have the muscle to press on . I'll pick up more mid day Friday . The Tanzania Govt is under huge pressure to advance this project . It was the number one election issue a few weeks ago . People there are sick of the Govt messing and play acting and trying to screw the gas exploration companies including us. The problem is the companies have deep pockets and the expertise - the Tanzanians really were hoping to steal the assets one way or another as usual . Now , people are putting the squeeze on. A deal for the land will come in weeks . According to the president - good news . The president is upset ' the gas companies are actually trying to make money out of this - our gas '. Reading the papers there the govt always refers to it as ' our gas'. It's time .....

No RNS ! That's very odd? No comment ? The word from Tanzania is the newly elected president is desperate to get a gas deal done. We could have progress within weeks . The costs involved are to big for us so at some point we will have to beg borrow or sell. And as for E G ? It's get off the pot time there too or we sell our other assets to finance one of the above ? Ophir has lots of options

Dear Ophir ( Investor shareholders relations department ). There have been several prominent media outlets reporting today that Ophir Energy are in talks with investors regarding a possible Merger of strategic investment. ( Bloomberg , Daily Telegraph in London, Reuters in Paris. It is surely important for the company to respond to this by way of an RNS. However, there has been no RNS, and supposedly the company has declined to comment to the media. Can you update me please. XXXXXXXX Granto.

Not much market reaction. I would need to be much firmer news. I don't like journalists that won't name their source. It's low level reporting.

The company has to release an RNS responding to the Media reports now that it is being carried by serious media outlets and newspapers. This will be interesting to say the lead. 'Several' Interest parties, including other Oillies and 'investors' from Financial' backgrounds . I don't think we are looking at a merger, but we may have a financier to put the cash into the EG development. But surely they would take bonds rather than equity or some sort of preference share. I think the Singapore Government could well take some interest here. They already sunk in $1.3billion/ just for Tanzania. Lots of potions here, equity finance too. fingers crossed.

the story on Bloomberg is a unsourced shady leak designed to generate buys, usually to let a seller out. Now, I could be wrong and there could be truth to it, the fact the company refused to comment is interesting. I wonder were they given a decent opportunity to reply. as for a suitor ? could be a current JV partner. If its true the SP will be above 140p because thats the buyback price and Ophir won't listen to anything below it. But I have my doubts ///

I bought into Oilex at an average of 38p last fortnight ! It's my only buy in about 6 weeks - it's 85p today ! It made up for lots of falling positions - more to come there I think

I disagree - this is a smart deal for both Rock and Fogl. Both have low SPs - what I don't understand is why they didn't wait until Isobel was finished. So Rock have a slightly better deal here . Massive cost savings in this merger. I'm surprised Rock didn't jump 10% to 15%.

I mainly gold mining stock . For my troubles I hold Petroneft . I like explorers that have producing arm so this suits my style . PTR are similar -they are a break even low cost producer in Russia but are expanding their reserves all the time . They have no debt. Despite this PoO crash they survived but got trashed in the SP.
