The mortality rate is now about the same as flu. However, without either lockdown or widespread testing cases will continue to rise exponentially. I would guess the government will be very nervous around September when over 1000 people a day are being hospitalised and over 100 a day dieing.

No testing would mean more lockdowns. The government has been very clear that they do not want further lockdowns.
The widespread use of LFTs for several years to come is a given. We just need some definitive information on orders and contracts to crystalize this.

Infections, cases, long-covid, hospitalisations and deaths are all still linked. Vaccination has helped by reducing the ratio of serious consequences; in the case of deaths from a peak of around 10% down to 0.1% currently. What hasn't happened is a reduction in R value to below 1. Vaccination doesn't prevent infection and only reducing infectiousness and the ability to transmit to others. This is more than offset by the direction of change in emerging variants towards increased infectiousness - with the current Delta variant at an R value of between 7 and 8.
The UK will have a short period of breathing space as schools and universities close for the summer but this will be offset by any relaxation in social distancing measures beyond the 19th July.
As cases rise so will hospitalisations and deaths. We are currently on track to exceed 100,000 new cases a day in the very near future which will bring 100 deaths a day shortly thereafter. Without either restrictions on contact and movement or widespread testing 100,000 cases will eventually reach 1million and 1000 deaths a day.
As Avacta have stated in the RNS releases and many others are aware, widespread mass testing will be around for years to come as its the only alternative from lockdowns and related restrictions.
The virus may one day begin to attenuate and mutate to become less virulent but that is not the current trajectory. Only when it does become benign will we consider it like a cold or the flu.

Energy. Just checked and Avacta is a Leeds spinout so they will have a shareholding rather than receive royalties. All universities have a business group and encourage spin-outs, eg UCL Business, Imperial College Innovations etc.

Usually what happens with a University spin out is the University's business group takes a founder's allocation of shares and commit to a pipeline agreement for future related IP.

It's not theirs, it's owned by Sharp who were going to manufacture under licence. Not sure that's going to happen any more......

Any H&S lawyers on here ? Under an employer’s duty of care to it’s employees I wonder if LFT testing wouldn’t be considered mandatory in the absence of social distancing measures after July 19th ?
It is clear way of reducing risk and harm so would an employer be negligent if they didn’t test and there was a cluster of cases amongst employees ?
