Volcano-i'm looking a the week chart for FERG, its back below 5000. I did ok earlier this week - wow

On Monday it was below 4000, it hit 5500 yesterday afternoon, now back down below 5000, its a lovely chart - providing you were on the right side of the movements.

It's on my watch list for a day trade, when market sentiment changes again and we go on a run northwards.

I bet there are dozens of quality shares with the same pattern out there.

Probably no need to take any massive risks out there next week - could be more than enough to be made from the FTSE 100.

Sure everyone has their eye on something.

With China closing its borders to prevent a second wave, it could be that even when Countries come through the other side of this it may be that borders will need to remain closed around the world.

Not sure I'm going to get a Summer holiday this year !

Still got 2 weeks in Morocco booked for mid Sept.

doesn't make attractive reading today. really pleased I didn't carry any trades over last night. Am guessing a few may have got their fingers brunt.

Hi Volcano - been watching HFD - it is swinging around. But it's one I'm going to steer clear of at least this side of the weekend. Not sure many bikes are going to be ordered, and based on what my friends are doing - not many young to renew MOT's or have cars serviced at least for the present.

There are a number posters over on that bb that are in deep. One who has been posting s lot bought in around the mid 1.50's a few weeks back, and posted that because pleased with his price.

Here's another strange one - TPT, stores closed but you can order online. A close friend is looking to use up his spare time to re tile his bathroom. He had already chosen the tiles he wanted, very nice too. He needs around 200, I said " good luck with that order" wouldn't want to be the delivery person dropping those off at his place lol. Yet since the rns the so has gone up. I was hoping for the mid 20's for a trade.

So Boris has the virus, emm wonder how many in Parliament may have come into contact with him. Good news that it's closing down for a period.

WWW it is then - TLY popped up earlier in the week for me - glanced at today's rns- nice rise this morning . No nothing about IXI.

All sectors down today, several solid long termer's are back in my buying territory.

Looking at Banking / financials / Builders / Heathcare /Consumer goods - where there are 5 % + then 5- swings almost on a daily basis, great fun but you have to have eyes in the back of your head.

Wonder how the US markets will react today, and what sentiment will be carried into the weekend on both sides of the pond.

There was me a while back wishing for a bit of volatility in the markets, as it was getting a little dull - well be careful what you wish for lol.

Yep US media suggesting last three days returns the US to bull run, yet FTSE futures suggest an open 2.3% down, so lots to consider.

if the day is blue take quick trades and get back into cash.

Just cant see how there wont be a massive hit to world economies, got to question how things will look by say mid May. Then consider what actual Company trading statements could look like by late summer early autumn, looking back on the previous 6 months, many will make grim reading i'd guess.

Volcano / Tav - we can deffo expect more huge swings.

been on bloomberg o confirm the over night US close.

Yet our FTSE futures are down 1.67% as I type.

Got Several trades ready but will wait to see the direction of travel.

Happy to see the recovery in my long term holds, over the last couple of days, but was not really too worried about those holds, did add to some as they were back at levels i'd bought them some time ago.

I deffo missed out on some quick day trades though.

I'd still agree Tav, we are likely to see drops if the number of daily deaths rises.

Be interesting to see how much goes into the market in the new tax year ISA season. I'm taking some of my reaction from how friends both employed and self employed are feeling and reacting. Several are heavily mortgaged up, with credit card commitments, and whilst, until the lock down were earning decent money, are very concerned.

lets hope Govts can get on top of this.

Volcano - have given myself a score of 4/10 for today's trading - prob only a C- "could do better".

US media are all over the stimulus package, Dow up 5.37% as i type. Will check in tomorrow morning to see where it closed, and would expect Asian markets to move north over night

Am watching the Chancellor's self employed presentation, as i type. Should be a blue start for tomorrow morning.

Looks like the US stimulus package news far outweighed the unemployment no's.

Guessing it will be a blue day tomorrow across the pond, think it gets to Trumps desk after our close of business leading into the weekend.

FTSE has come off lows - LGEN flying today. QLT still bubbling.

The US markets have the "what" with the package, next comes the "how" - ie stimulus reaching where it needs to reach.

Similar situation here in the UK. Anyone run a small business, how is the support working in practice ?

I got a little bit of AV. again this afternoon, but could probably have done better trading wise today, should have been more glass half full.

When is the time to switch from day trading to finding those long term undervalued holds for ones portfolio. Is it too early.

Still lots of shares trading 30 - 40 % below where they were on my watch list. Any views ?

I took a look a MNG when it came to market in Oct but I was in QLT which I sold on 13th Dec @ 157.8.

Taking mid Feb prices, MNG was trading at say 2.50 now at 1.45 down 58%
QLT mid Feb was trading at say 170 now at 1.15 down 68%

So both have long term recovery potential, assuming they were fairly priced in Feb.

I had traded Old Mutual for years which is why I continued with QLT.

Now to my long term sector trading strategy, which you may find strange :

Bought my first share in 1983. In that time -

Tobacco - aways trade IMB never held BAT
pharma - always trade GSK and HIK never held AZN
Oil - always trade BP never held Shell
Banks - always trade BARC / LLOY never held HSBC or RBS
Airlines - trade RYA not EZJ

Within each sector I try get comfortable with trading ranges for a favourite stock pick. However I then track its performance regularly against its peers within its sector. I also read rns for sector peers even though I don't trade them, in addition I keep abreast of bb's for both my picks and sector peers.

It's something to do with my ability to retain info lol - sure I often look at a share and think about an opportunity missed but you can't be everywhere and cover everything. To be honest I trade for fun now I'm retired, it's nice to get a trade right, but I don't beat myself up when they go against me. I'll deffo get involved in the odd debate on these boards though lol.

Don't think those US jobless figures are going to make good reading.

Saw the POLY rns, again not one i've traded, so will take a look.

I've traded the LGEN / AV. / LLOY / BARC / QLT frequently, my career was in finance so its a sector that i am comfortable in. I have buy in prices for each of these.

For the medium term I'm looking for Govt's to gain control over virus numbers, together with testing to confirm those, who have had the virus and can safely return to work. For the longer term a vaccine needs to be found, to allow vunerable members of society to re enact and engage within their communities.

looking forward say 3 - 6 months, company debt levels will be a key consideration for longer term plays.

Do you feel the Govt will be in a position to lift the present lock down within 3 weeks.

Volcano - yes Just finished reading the TPT rns, be interesting to see market reaction, may be worth a punt if it drops back down into the 20's again, but only during a risk on day.

Have you read the AAZ rns - mining to continue, but challenges with refining. Will watch that one with interest.

See the US market rises tailed off yesterday, FTSE futures are down 2.4%. Lets see what the direction of travel is this morning. Watch out for those US jobless figures around mid day.

No news out there that I can find fir STOB, so lets see where it opens. I'm assuming the Energy Division is still operating normally but an rns to confirm would be useful.

I'll be looking to get a few trades off early tomorrow morning. Will do my usual pre market reading, and check of rns, I only trade for rises, don't do shorts, but which sectors - emm.

No real info on here last trade showing was at 13.27, i cant see afternoon and post close trades on H&lL either.

Volcano - great news about off licences lol.

Looks like those shares that were hit the most, are rallying, so perhaps a were seen as a bit oversold.

I'm like you, never had so much cash in my trading account. Ready to pop in and out ( my long termer's that were beaten up are recovering a bit so that's good news ).

Saw your posts over on HFD, I'm scratching my head too ! Hope it holds for them over there.

Biffa put out a similar type of RNS and took a hit early on, I still like the co. at the right price, maybe in a few weeks time.

PSN saved its Div too and got a good reaction, looks like those that pay out at the moment are taking a bit of a hit in the media.

I see the market walked a number of shares up the hill, then back down again today ( LLOY & PZC were two I was watching getting away from me in the morning,only to return back into my buying territory this afternoon.

The good news is it's another day tomorrow and almost anything can and probably will happen. Reasoned analysis seems to have gone out the window, if its a northwards looking day - go with the flow, if not hunker down ! lol.

Reckons he needs 150,000 hospital beds and has 53,000 available.

Taking NY state in isolation 12% of all tested become hospitalised, 3% require ICU.
