lunatic, I did well out of the vodafone deal, mainly cos I held pre deal and bought when the Verizion holding was deemed to be worth nowt because it didnt pay a divi. Agreed those who tried to jump on for the papers headlines just got some money back as it was then priced into the deal. Ultimately, as with most share dealings it depends on how low you buy and how high you sell. This will be a forced sell again, hopefully at a price above what you paid otherwise you will lose out. So my free shares will earn me a better return than the ones I paid 283p for. Lets hope it brings lloyds back to the table

It will be the same again, think of it as swapping a pound note for 90p plus 10p in change. They are effectively forcing you to sell some of your shares but you will have the same value in a different format. Its those that buy in after the deal, normally on headlines along the line of massive windfalls in the media expecting something for nothing that come unstuck. I suppose we will have to wait for the detail to see how things pan out. Over on the NG. board still lots of unhappy bunnies over a similar thing

LordAdam, they stated a minimum of 33.4p per share based on current expectations add to that approx 22p of buybacks but that will most likely change and probably for the worst. Like you I would have prefered all cash but I suppose the buyback helps others, maybe with a more financial slant, they might be a bit better as fund managers compared to some other companies. I welcome being surprised positively. Market on a downer when announced so muted response. Might be an opportunity to add more if things pan out as the cash will be coming later. Might make divi growth a tad easier over the next couple of years with less debt and shares. Pity they cant find anything to do with it all, maybe too busy with the integration!

I suppose its good news considering what might have happened regarding Bombardier recently. More jam tomorrow please. I cant recall from memory the expected growth profile for these but suspect it will be refreshed in the next update

be warned Standard life are doing a National Grid, Selling part of the company and doing a special divi, consolidation, debt reduction and buyback. So if you haven't got any, dive over there now so you can complain later about being ripped off post the deal!!!

Okay guys you win... moniman, dont take it to heart. I suppose this bb is mainly Vod shareholders and the majority want a higher SP, and most want it now. So your comments are seen as unwelcome by some. Some of your statements are factulary wrong but others are opinions which differ from the majority. Is the glass half full or half empty with you on the empty side. I like posters who challenged my thinking and currently we agree to disagree on some things. I suppose its a waiting game to see who's picture is more focused. (Checks SP quickly to see if its dropped on the open) Hopefully I will keep adding Vod over time to keep it roughly the same percentage of my PF, using dips along the way

Its not been downgraded yet but as the picture is likely to change then so will the rating, as you would expect. Remember Vodafone stated that they expected a rating of BBB when the deal completes which is lower than linked in the article. Again as you would expect as the deal moves from muted to actual. I agree the risk is higher though and likely to weigh on the SP and as you have highlighted just on of the many factors going forward

Maybe you missed the comments by Chris Loughlin at the presentation. As for profits v investments, it saved the government and taxpayers a lot of investment dosh over the years, provided jobs and pensions and paid taxes. yes As a shareholder id like more on profits and maybe less on investments but as the profits are limited but the risks are not, I suppose I will have to make do with Pennons efficiencies helping both increase my dividend and reduce my bills

Well I'm confused, upping the divi so they can cut it by 18 percent later???? Yes I realise there is a deal in the offing just to add to the mix. So Im going to end up owning two companies, one with a divi cut and another that ........ well I dont know. OK I'm going to have to research a bit more on the complexities of the deal or why they are selling apart from political interference. Why would I want to keep something they are selling? Maybe I should push the button myself, saving double dealing fees and a lot of reading. I'm sure I can find something else.

Still its your money and you have to do what you think is best. I'm not making a case for you too buy there are loads of other shares, many much better than this all you have to do is find them. Not expecting too much really might be more of a case of limiting damage. Would be most surprised if it was really positive, I think vodafone might be treading on more toes

Max, the reason why they did a special and consolidation was explained maybe you should read the facts from the horses mouth rather than insinuations a year after the event. What did happen to your 1000 shares, why was it fateful? You seem to like ranting about things but dont seem to actually know any facts DYOR is sound advice may you should try it
