Hopefully Deb's flowers are flowing faster than my divi payments even if Queeny's not buying me any. Debs also going to be selling more fragrance and lingerie, with new brand Bonds, although not the swimwear. I see its also going to be the first major department store to sell hijabs. Always got me that one, seeing completely covered ladies shopping for sexy undies but maybe its not as strange to others, ironic then. Share price softening with the market.

I think some of the "headlines" were PR'ed into the SP before hand see some of the previous links. On many metrics its a grim read. Profit halved, EPS halved, Loss 4£Bn etc. Add to that fines and maybe more to come. Even FCF was nearly halved but is actually better than expected and at the top end of guidance. Having a skeg at the SP, down 5%, not too bad for a kitchen sinking job and all those headwinds. Still the darkest hour is just before the dawn!

Well the "No Opinion" option is the default. I can make a case for buying and selling that would contradict each other. Mainly I have opinions about the company, often in relation to the market. How many people say "strong buy" then dont actually follow it themselves? Spouting lack of funds, fully invested elsewhere etc. I recently sold some MRW but I dont rate it a sell one bit.

Well the one in Paphos, which is run as a franchise. I know the shopping is different out there and you do pay extra for your UK items to be imported. I liked HP sauce, well until it went dutch, as my little extra. Hopefully it will mean more divis and with the pound falling a little extra ....... so I can afford to buy more HP on my next trip.

I agree with your "Without a clear joint strategy a merger is not worth the bother" comment but why not look at the possibility. Scale and cost savings plus more options on how to fight with discounters and all the reasons you state added to the property freeholds make me think it might be worth investigating. I didnt think it would be allowed previously. As a shopper I am against it, I like to go next door for the same thing but cheaper.

arsenal58, the rise was recently a fall so comes and goes in quite a short time scale. Even if it did work out and increased the price by exactly the 3% or whatever the number of shares cancelled, how would you know. Dont you expect them to improve the company anyway so the rise should be bigger overall. Also a 3% rise in SP is not much use if the market has a 20% pull back and drags all boats down. A Special divi would be a real return and can be used however you like. Buy more SSE if you want at the price you choose. Now they are playing stockbroker and buying tomorrow and the next day whatever the price, even if it too high. I might prefer to buy something that is better value, when I choose. The only advantage is a possible tax saving on not receiving a divi and maybe some dealing fees but again that would be only a small advantage and likely to only affect a few, larger holders or funds.

Queeny, I prefer chocolates to flowers, they taste better! Sorry I put you off HL although I did say they were a better investment just dont put your money in there. In hindsight I should of had some back then but the small divi put me off but I would have had some good growth. Hope it works out for you. Tam Dalyell, another Marmite man. Midway, I suppose things that complex do take a lot of ground work. Glad that Debs own Ireland issues have also been solved. Now we can hope that there is a tad more added to the bottom line from over there. Another up day, wots going on with this market.

givetheinfo, It would be great if they have the surplus cash to start the divi sooner rather than later. From memory the return on capital was quite pitiful and nowhere near their greater than 10 percent target. I know they were taking steps to improve that and other metrics and maybe the SP is rising in anticipation of the improvement following through. SUFCESSEX - Are you really going to sell your horses and put it all back here. I think Buster would be happy with a bit of each after all its only 319 days to Christmas dinner. I suspect it will be another buyback rather than an extra divi, if the stateside money does come back.

LordAdam, I suspect that you have this completely wrong, there will be no double divi. This would mean they have to increase the increase by inflation too. You have to console yourself with the SP rising by the same amount as the reduction in shares, having a quick skeg, shows there was a rise, it fell back and was until recently lower than the announcement date. If only I had a special divi coming, I might have spent it in advance buying some more shares here when the price was lower. Does that mean they paid too much?
