Is opening weekend a roaring success smashing forecasts?
No
It is coming in below forecasts, not like half of forecast though and they are "only" forecasts.
Think it is worth also noting we are still in early stages of re opening and I didn't personally ever think it would be back to business and wider life as " normal" in space of couple months.
Trends is what we want to see and if overall box office for month on month on month keeps trending up.

Yeah I fully expect a wide range of quality in the ramp and deramp crews next few days and likely beyond.
The copying title was probably one of the "smarter" parts of deramp effort.

No, the business re opened exactly on schedule.
We know there is some additional debt (it's been well noted) from last results.

Last weekend the UK did $14,945,216 compared to same week in 2019 at $20,120,125.
This gives a 74.3% so the interviewee isn't wrong.

HOWEVER the previous week for example was: $8,830,384 v $24,840,355 giving 35.5%

Week to week is hard to guage due to any one week having big box office movie and correspot week not.

Maybe more useful is period 1stl June to Now

2021 $155,331,159
2019 $353,612,677

This gives UK (remember we are far more USA biased) rate of c. 44% (this has been tending to average up since opening).

The 3 years movies in c. 18 months quotes 80 movies.
That is clearly not 3 years worth of films, so I assume it refers to the "big releases"
Issue of greater volume required still stands.
Are they there? I don't know. I hope so.

Cineworld has c. 75% of its business in the USA, I am looking for the similarities here.
Again I spoke number of days back of how UK seed ahead of the curve compared to USA when looking at attendance *source Box office mojo.
Only numbers that matter are business bottom line.
Cinemark most recent to show still recording losses that come in WORSE than expected (not by a lot).

Regards films true costs and end profit or later as who really knows.
Something forgetting at times is the huge marketing costs after the "making" and that revenues are split with theatres so box office clearly requires to be bigger.
Though there will be some deals with brands shown in movies to counter that a little

Indeed, let's see Thursday and then the months ahead.

While it's always desirable to make profit, maybe in some cases there is a bigger picture to look at.

For Disney, Universal etc some of it is about continued "advertising" of the brand which leads to much greater spend outside the movie, merchandise, theme parks etc.

We are only 2 - 3 months into recovery phase of what has been one of the biggest disruptions to the world in decades if not ever.

Current numbers are not enough, they have been improving, let's see where they are 3, 6, 12 months from now.

Yes Plumber, a small further improvement this week on last months improvement. A touch over 46% from 45 and release numbers seem also to be growing.
Would be nice to see some confidence breed confidence and the pace of growth pick up.

2 weeks is plenty time between Venom and Bond to be honest.
Look at box office and how quickly it tails off.
On average there are c.12 screens at each Cineworld site so still plenty to go around with a Big movie and another entering its 3rd week.
Can understand their possible apprehension re: current levels making them profit or not, but hopefully they take a view on balance it's worth going ahead now.

PW Don't fret, if and when I see positives I will comment on them and post here as I have still been doing recently (I think some of my posts have been lost on some as other posts/threads drown them out).

I personally think any positives from 12th won't be from the results themselves, more likely from additional info e.g. Cineplex situation, studio deals, initial second half indicators or some other news Mooky and board has regards current and future that we do not already have.

Only 6 days now, fingers crossed for a few of those things to be positive.
