It might not happen. What I'm saying is that it has become a possibility due to the continuous dilution. The board no longer appear to have a controlling stake and nothing tangible has been done to correct that (like enticing real investors who want the company to succeed instead of daytraders chasing their 2%).

So far no one has been interested but that could all change if they get orphan status.

The point is that you said that the shareholders could fend off a hostile bid if someone wanted to snap it up cheap and that's the reason why no one has come forward.

Even if Holland and the board hold 12%, Hbos & Barclays 11%, that's still not the 26% needed to fend off a hostile takeover should someone actually want to buy it. They need 75% of the shares.

That means that the remaining shares are likely in the hands of short term traders who would be happy with much less than 2-3p.

..would have to notify the shareholders of an approach. Most of the other shareholders may well be traders who would settle for far less than long term holders would want.

The major shareholders, as far as I know, are the board and Joanne Holland. I'm not 100% sure but from the figures I've seen reported in recent RNS' I doubt they hold more than 200m shares between them.

There are now 1,695,709,368 shares in issue, so if I'm right then those shareholders hold about 11 or 12%.
